THIS piece at Deadline today reveals that James Wan, who helmed the first SAW, INSIDIOUS, the first CONJURING, and will soon bring us the 7th FAST AND THE FURIOUS movie, will return to direct the CONJURING sequel.

The oft-discussed sequel to 2013’s THE CONJURING has been pushed from its October 23, 2015 release date to an unspecified date in 2016 - and there’s still no word on who’s gonna be directing the picture.
While the recently released and tepidly received ANNABELLE was something of a side-story/prequel to the gnarly dolly featured in THE CONJURING, this ‘sequel’ is said to be a more legitimate follow-up, revisiting leads Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga on a new case.
I love the idea of tracking Farmiga and Wilson’s Lorraine and Ed Warren characters through a series of films as they wrestle with their own struggles while 1) working to help others, and 2) confront terrifying and dangerous paranormal unknowns. But, it’s hard not to be concerned that the notion of franchising the Warrens is turning into another Abrams TREK scenario - i.e. too far between installments to keep the juices flowing and interest / visibility as high as it could be?
We’ll see how this delay affects matters, if at all, sometime in 2016.
