A MY LITTLE PONY Movie Will Stampede Into Your Local Multiplex Soon!!

So a MY LITTLE PONY movie is coming to theaters.  It’ll be written by Joe Ballarini, a scripter on 2012’s ICE AGE: CONTINENTAL DRIFT.

The MLP feature will be produced through Allspark, a new Hasbro label which is already bringing us the previously announced JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS adaptation (directed by G.I. JOE: RETALIATION’s Jon M. Chu).

Hasbro Studios will take the reigns of “My Little Pony,” producing and financing it in-house. It is in discussion with studios to release the film “on the broadest possible number of screens,” said Stephen Davis, president of Hasbro Studios and global entertainment and licensing for Hasbro Inc.

…says THIS piece in Variety, which also reveals that Megan McCarthy, a writer/producer on MY LITTLE PONY projects like FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC and EQUESTRIA GIRLS, will serve as a Co-Executive Producer on this new picture.

I recently watched a documentary (still streaming on Netflix) called BRONIES, about boys/men who like and celebrate MY LITTLE PONY.  It’s interesting, and ends up being about far more than just MLP.  It touches on intolerance, isolation, need for connection, and at one point discusses violent discrimination towards males who respond to this franchise.

The ever-awesome John de Lancie makes a sizable appearance in it - having voiced ‘Discord’  for one of the series.  He seems like a total badass here.  Consider checking it out.

On the flipside of Bronie exploration…
