The Poltergeist remake is rated PG-13 and you shouldn't be upset about that.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. It shouldn't come as any surprise that the Poltergeist remake was aiming for and will be getting a PG-13 rating, but it seems like some in the horror community are upset about this. This is a little bit of a headscratcher for me because the original film was PG (and if PG-13 existed then it would have likely been PG-13), but I guess these days the PG-13 rating is synonymous with watered-down horror, so the knee-jerk is that the new Poltergeist will be diluted in some way.

So, don't freak out about the rating. If you're worried just because it's a remake of a great movie then that's fair game. Those are always things to be nervous about. I've heard some vague not good things out of a recent test screening out on the West Coast, but I am still pulling for the movie to work. I mean, Gil Kenan has already done a swell haunted house movie (Monster House), the script was written by David Lindsay-Abaire (who wrote Rabbit Hole... and Robots, but we'll just focus on Rabbit Hole) and the cast includes Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt and Jared Harris, so it's got a lot going for it.

If it fails, it fails, but it won't be because it's not hardcore enough. There's a lot of talent involved, so I'm hoping for the best. I guess we'll all know come summer 2015.

Oh, and if you are curious that awesome art above was done by a talented bloke named Jim Ferguson. Check out his site for more awesomeness!
