Screw you guys, I'm goin to bed....

    by xthecrovvx

I stayed up for that? ugh....Ok, i'm going to spread my rage out some, instead of just lobbing it all on you at once...ok, Travesty Number One: Buffy gets screwed...over, and over, and over again....not that I'm saying The West Wing is a bad show, or poorly written or anything, but...well...i'll get to my point in a few....Travesty Number Two: We got a montage of all the "quality shows" that we got this season...was it my imagination, or was anything that so much as gave the hint of anything below the age of 30 axed ot completely? once again, no Buffy, That 70's Show, animation in all its form and glory were nil, Survivor wasnt in it either, and it was mostly a joke the entire night.....Travesty, and nausea-induction Three.....the CEO of the Academy...to hear her tell it, it sounds like the only shows that matter are shows that deal with one of three topics: sex, racism, or politics. And looking at the awards, with the exceptions of Malcolm in the Middle, and the Sopranos, every other winner fell right into those three categories....which brings me to my point....the Emmy awards are age biased....time and time again, Buffy The Vampire Slayer has been touted as the best written show on TV, and it gets screwed in every turn...no, further than that, every show dealing with the fantastical was screwed...after a while, after hearing thank you speeched from the West Wing cast, i started to see the trends happening...I was beginning to tell when Everybody Loves Raymond or West Wing or Will and Grace was gonna win...and it bored me to hell there...TV has become home of the conservative, and it bites...what i find ironic is that all night, people bitched on and on about how reality shows are crap, and worthless(and, in the tradition sense, they do, with the exception of Survivor), yet every single winner of an award was a show based on total reality...lawyers, ghettos, mafias, politicians, relationships...are we so hard pressed for corrupt political figures that we gotta invent shit?! theres your true reality TV....personally, i deal with these parts of reality on a daily basis, i dont need it to get my daily jollies of drama...i can do that by walking outside....so to see my favorite sort of TV, that which is based in fiction and fantasy, shat upon once again hurts....and i'll be damned if i'm gonna sit up next year and watch it unless some serious changes happen....Screw you guys, I'm goin home...Revolution is my name...

I cant believe the Simpsons won.

    by brian 2000

Did the voters even watch that episode "Behind the Laughter" not only was there absolutely NO laughter but there was not an ounce of creativity in the whole thing. The Emmys just honored a season that made the Simpsons much less of an all around show. South Park deserved it, the delivered time and time again quality shows, with believe it or not real points. END THE SIMPSONS NOW BEFORE THE GOOD OUTWAYS THE

BAD! Anyone who thinks the Simpsons has been good needs to slap themselves a good many times. (Sorry I believe in opinions but this is a fact)

    general emmyness, jossdom, etc.

    by druidess

I must first cheer for Will & Grace and Eddie Izzard. Huzzah!

Secondly, *of course* Buffy got screwed. The show suffers from many a bias, by no means limited to age. Age is certainly a factor--many people simply can't take teenagers seriously unless they're suffering from some fatal disease which supposedly justifies their emotional maturity, thus allowing said people to rationalize said taking of the seriousness. In addition, Buffy is plagued by Early X-Files Syndrom. Remember, in those golden days when X-Files was an excellent show, how it used to garner all sorts of lovely sounding nominations, and everyone would go home with nothing more than an after-party hangover? "Gee," them Emmy folks think, scratching their heads, "that thar show sure is attracting a bunch of fans. Heck, I *love* that show. But well...they've got a bunch of space aliens and crap running around all over the place." Sci-fi bias. And back to the age issue: Joss Whedon has rendered the voice of intelligent American youth more closely than anyone else out there. Unfortunately, this is not a voice that people want to hear.

Hey...for the first time in I don't know how many years, Dennis Franz mourning dead people didn't get him an Emmy. The mobsters are on his turf now...

Oh, and I do believe Geena Davis just replaced Seven of Nine in my stepfather's wet dreams.

    Carry on.

Once again the passing of De Forrest Kelly is passed over in a retrospective. The date was 11-6-99. Although he had a long career in movies and television, both the Academy and the Emmys could not see fit to honor him :(

    Little Emmy points

    by xthecrovvx

OK, first, Geena Davis might as well have gone naked to the show...but either way, thanks to her and Halle Berry, i was able to carry a mighty hard-on during the show.....second, The Simpsons still has my respect for giving me years of laughs, consistently...but seriously, this season took a nose dive, and the fact that it got an award this year for Behind the Comedy proves even further the Emmy bias....but, i digress, at least Family Guy got a worthwhile Emmy(Outstanding voice-over work: Seth McFarlane as Stewie)...Next, I've slowly become a Spin City fan over the past few months, and ive been a Michael J Fox fan since Back to the Future....but unfortunately, i gotta face facts here...he got a sympathy Emmy last night...after the great work he'd done in the past seasons on this show, why else would they give it to him this year? Lastly, to add onto my little thing about the Academy's age bias...i started thinking about TV in general....the generation 25 and younger doesnt have a voice....unless youre a screaming 14 year old girl with a Carson Daly fetish, TV's got nothin for ya...Dawson's Creek tries but ultimately fails...Buffy is excellent, but still doesnt get much recognition when it comes to awards....anybody who saw the show American High when it was on knows that that was THE most realistic portrayal of high school there could possibly be, and Fox canned it in 3 episodes...while Big Brother continues to somehow stay on the air, even while it becomes a disaster just waiting for a good site to happen at....all the recognition we got is a bunch of shallow bastards in matching outfits prancing around like a bunch of Kansas City faggots(no offense to the gay community...its just that i just got done watching Blazing Saddles a couple minutes ago...)....i know my generation has more power than this...we have to get our shows out there, or we're gonna end up invisible for the rest of our lives artistically....Revolution is my name.

    Malcolm gets screwed

    by skimn

After watching the first episode earlier this year, I thought Malcom in the Middle would be a shoo-in for best comedy series, and damned if it didn't win best writing and directing but was it even nominated for best comedy series??NOOOO...whats wrong with this picture. How can a series win best writing and directing but not even be nominated? Yes, Will & Grace is a funny show, but its produced just like every other sitcom under the sun. At least Malcolm is fresh and a little different from all the other comedies on the tube. I have a feeling Malcolm will suffer from the 'Buffy syndrome'...geez, it's a show for kids..it can't be that good.

    Find some brains

    by zoyd

For all those complaining about "The West Wing" and crowing about "Buffy," it's time to grow up. While "Buffy" should probably have been nominated (I'd replace "The Practice"), "West Wing" clearly is more complex stroytelling and has muchg better developed characters than anything on the air - except for maybe "The Sopranos," but "Sopranos" doesn't have top carry it's quality over 22 episodes like "West Wing," so my vote easily goes to "West Wing." It's stories are better developed and more satisfying than any other drama out there. So quit yer bellyachin' and learn something about real storytelling.

    "Best Written Shows"

    by palhaco

RKO281 said that "West Wing" and "Will and Grace" are the Best Written Shows on TV and that that's why they won. Apart from the fact that if any show wins an Emmy BECAUSE it's well-written is a total accident...the above-mentioned shows were not necessarily the best-written. I won't comment negatively on "Will and Grace" because I've never watched, but I seriously doubt it could have been any better than "Sports Night", which got totally shafted. And if Aaron Sorkin was going to be rewarded, it should have been for that show rather than the well-written melodrama that is "West Wing" (which is sort of like "The Practice" without all the screaming). But "Once and Again" is many times better than either "The Practice" or "West Wing". And "NYPD Blue" is easily as good as any of the shows nominated. But then, just like the Grammys, it's not about quality, it's about something else, though I'm not sure what it is.......

    Garry Shandling was hilarious ....

    by fatal discharge

He made the Wayan brothers hosting the MTV video awards look like the comedic hacks that they are. Most cringe-inducing speech - I think it was Sela Ward who said something like " with Michael J. Fox, then Jack Lemmon and the memorium and me getting this award I don't think I can go on". Way to put your foot in your mouth grouping the dead with Lemmon and Fox - what an idiot. And what a ripoff for West Wing to win everything (except best actor) over The Sopranos. It's pretty typical the people in the big networks want to vote for their own, let the cable networks like HBO get the consolation prizes of best miniseries. Considering the networks have relied on reality crap like Survivor to get anyone to watch should say something to them - their boring sitcoms and dramas don't take risks and people are still leaving network tv in droves.

    Re-elect President Bartlett!

    by kent allard

Taped the show and watched it last night. I'm so glad that WEST WING got the recognition it deserved! It is the best show on network TV. However, Buffy is a fantastic show that continually gets passed over because of the Academy's anti-sci-fi, anti-youth bias. Hopefully, this will be rectified someday with the shake-up in the voting process, but I doubt it. Finally, I know I'm going to be flamed for this, but I just don't see what all the hoopla is over The Sopranos. I've seen 2-3 episodes of the series (loved the one with Alicia Witt -- yum!), but I'm just not hooked. I think my basic problem is that the protagonist is basically a scuzzy killer. Yeah, he may be a neurotic guy devoted to his family, but he's still a thug and I have a hard time identifying and rooting for him from week to week ("Yeah, blow his head off for squealing to the FBI! Way to go, man! You rock!") Not that I'm such an upstanding moralist or anything, but I find it a lot easier to get behind the altruistic ideals of The West Wing than the nihilistic violence of The Sopranos. Just my opinion.

    Poor Daphne....

    by sorcerer

A shame that Jane Leeves wasn't nominated for her wonderfully subtle yet challenging work on FRASIER. Apparently the voters were dead set against giving that show any major award this year, with the vague justification that "it's already won a lot of times." Well, yes, but there's a reason. I wouldn't have minded if Jane was nominated, then lost to Megan Mullaly- they're both pretty good so I'd be comfortable with that. Of course, the replay of the Winnebago scene from the season finale proved just what comedy show was the best (with the possible exception of SPORTS NIGHT, may it rest in peace.) I haven't seen WILL & GRACE pull off anything that terrific, though it is funny and often clever.

On another note- whether or not Marchand posthumously deserved it aside, wasn't it a great moment when Allison Janey won Best Supporting Actress in a Drama? Her shock and gratitude were palpable, a rare show of genuine emotion. Plus she's a very good actress (maybe in the WEST WING, I haven't seen it, I'm just speaking in general terms.) And Patricia Heaton was a pleasant surprise- I thought her work was so subtle it would be overlooked, but apparently the voters know the value of a well-timed "idiot."

Am I the only one who even realized Freaks and Geeks was more deserving of an award this year than anything else on telivision? It's a shame to see the show ignored completley by any awards judges... I doubt it will win any golden globes, too, unless those have already taken place. I think this year's emmys are living proof that they are just as phony as the Grammys.

    Resident Evil Movie?

    by roddimus prime

I have read tons of E-mail, opinions, and speculation about a RE Movie. I am disgusted with everything I'm hearing. I will boycott this mother in a N.Y. minute!!! I have every game in the series including the PC versions of 1 and 2 and Veronica. I have finished every game with the best times, endings, weapons, you name it. I know RE in my Heart! I'm telling everbody now, YOU CAN'T CHANGE THE STORY!
This isn't Batman,or Blade. Artistic liberties were taken with those, but those properties have always made changes, that's the nature of comicbooks. This property is not a comicbook. Mortal Kombat 1 is the closest to success because they did the game! The RE games represent an experience like none I've ever had. I'm 33yrs young, I was there when it all started with pong. RE is far beyond those experiences! I work for N.Y.C. Transit and every single person who I introduced to RE has come back to thank me. Why? Because they all Fell In Love!!! They can't stop playing! The following has to happen if this thing is going to fly. 1)RE Zero should be merged with RE 1 because RE 1 alone will be short and Zero will allow for Character intros especially for Wesker and Bravo Team and the planting of Mayor Warren and Chief Irons by Umbrella. 2)RE2 should be like Jedi. Multiple stories at the same time, going back and forth between Leon/Ada and Claire/Sherry, possibly flashing Officer Marvin inside the RPD, William Birkin's encounter with Hunk's extraction team, and a little shot of a cowardly Helicopter Pilot who looks like death warmed over, etc...
3)RE3 is what I consider the Greatest RE! Why? Because the Shit Hits the Fan, and we see it! Jill's predicament is the worst of all! NEMESIS IS SATAN INCARNATE! What she goes through including getting infected herself will destroy anybodies faith! You can't alter this part, especially the Demise of "ChickenHeart" Brad Vickers, who will have already made a cameo as a pussball in RE2. This Film should be the Blockbuster. Oh, and this time, when Jill get's inside the RPD, on the second day, Sept. 29th, she does catch a glimpse of Leon somewhere on the 2nd floor fighting a licker or something. See, if you played the game, you'd know what the hell I'm talking about.
Which brings me to 4)Have every goddamn person who wants to make the film(s), PLAY THE GAMES!!!
Veronica should be left alone until that trilogy is finished. I say that because that's what it is people. They goofed royally on the numeration. Veronica should be 4, not a side story. Let's not talk about Survivor, which should only show up as a file or something in Veronica or later. Now, if not one of Hollywoods so-called up-and-coming directors/producers or Mavericks up there can't do the fucking job, then leave it the fuck alone!!! Which brings me to 5)CGI, Period. Check out the Final Fantasy Preview! Truly the shape of things to come. Get topshelf actors to do the voices and nothing else has to be said. The legacy of RE will be intact. Need further proof? The intros to RE3 and Veronica are pure adrenalin pumpin', hair raisin' pieces of work. Anybody want to get into it with me, my icq is 20745056 or rlj5167@earthlink.net. I hope I have demonstrated my passions here because I mean it when I say I'll boycott Capcom's shit if it's that fucking futuristic story I read. I read a proposed script that started with Wesker recruiting his Bravo Team. It was...Tasty...itchy...yum...
