Could THE STAND Be Split into Two Films???

Hey guys! Horrorella here...

This news is minor, but exciting. Last month, Josh Boone, who broke hearts over the summer with his adaptation of THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, discussed his new project, the massive undertaking of bringing Stephen King's THE STAND to theatrical release in a way that is true to the source material.

The Stand is a hugely dense story, and the project has passed through several different pairs of hands before landing with Boone earlier this year. Boone had indicated that the previously-discussed (and terrible) plans for a single, two-hour film were pretty much gone. As they should be - such a film would be an incredible waste. At the time, it sounded as though they were going for a three-hour adaptation, which would give them more time to develop King's huge stable of characters and to tell the story of good and evil the way it needs to be told.

Now, in a recent interview with MTV, King himself has weighed in, and it looks like the project continues to move in a positive direction.

“I think that his take is terrific — and don’t count on it being one film...There’s talk about doing it in an entirely different and innovative way, and I don’t want to go into it because that’s Josh’s baby.”

What that way could be is anybody's guess. The obvious answer would be to cut the story into two films, which seems to be a tactic that studios are becoming increasingly embracing. But if there's more to it than that, it hasn't been discussed publicly at this point.

Personally, I'd be all over a two film adaptation if it allows incorporation of the more subtle and enriching aspects of the novel.

What do you guys think?
