This Week's SATURDAY SHORTS: Science Projects Gone Wrong! (And more!)

Hello ladies and gentlemen, welcome to this week's exciting edition of SATURDAY SHORTS, the online weekly film fest featuring films from AICN readers. My god, it's October, the greatest month out there! I can see the rest of the AICN folks getting in the holiday spirit (like here and here). It's totally time to break out HOCUS POCUS, TRICK 'R TREAT, and the rest of your favorite freaky flicks. The weather's getting chilly and the ghouls are hiding around each corner... my kind of time. So to keep in that tradition of creepy/unsettling/freakiness, let's lay out some fun films that have an extra little bit of spook infused in them. Below are five films I thuroughly enjoyed the tar out of and hope you fine folks get a kick out of as well. So enough text, let's start rolling some videos. Hit play, then enjoy as the flick hits you right back. (Full screen these if you can!)

Go grab yourself some popcorn, lock your kids in a closet, kill the lights, relax and check out this little weekly film fest we've got ourselves here:

MOUSE-X

TRT: 15:00

Bam! Right out the gate (and in search of some cheese), let's take a peak at Justin Tagg's latest creation. (Not an experimental film, but a film about experimentation!) While I typically have each week's films selected about a week in advance, Justin just shot this my way yesterday - I watched it and knew I had to share the hell out of it. Damn I want to see a feature out of this. It's nicely shot, weird, and holds your attention for the full 15 minutes, then leaves you wanting more. Way to go, Justin. Keep cranking movies out! If you folks like what you see and want to see more, check out the movie's website or go to its vimeo page (where there's tons of info).

THE HITCH

Yet another great film from the UK this week, next up is a romantic comedy (with a twist) from Theo Zenou. The movie's played at BAFTA and had a lovely run in the festival world, so it's a treat to share it with you guys and gals today. "A rom-com" with an edge about the hopes, dreams and disillusions married life is made of." Check out Theo's website for more info on the guy!

DOSING

TRT: 2:50

Boom! We've got another film from Matt MacDonald (The Invention Of Video Games) and this one's full of digital depression! It's a scifi horror flick that's based in the world of addiction (and is set in the future). " A lonely woman's relationship is pushed to the limits by her use of downloadable drugs." Be sure to hit up Matt's website for more info on the guy (it's full of interesting things)!

NIGHTWATCH

TRT: 12:18

To bring us back to the horror thriller love, here we have a film from Nicolaï Belce-Kennedy. He made this for less than a thousand bucks, and manages to infuse his Kubrick love into the thing beautifully. "In a deserted underground parking, a lonely night watchman making his rounds follows strange noises coming from bellow." Damn cool short.

RESIGNATION

Last, but certainly not least we have an interesting fan film from Joshua Caldwell. "When a disillusioned combat photojournalist with a curious, super-heroic past is confronted with a crisis, he must face a dilemma that runs deeper than he cares to admit." Get flying over to his website for the film for a more immersive experience!

That's it for this week folks. I'll be in Los Angeles in a week or so, so if you've got any cool places I should check out, are shooting a movie of any kind, or just want to toss any fun facts my way - mike@aintitcool.com. I'll see you all next week with more shorts, but in the meantime I hope some of these can hold you over!

If you have a short and think it belongs here or are on the fence about whether to send it in, please do send it in - I'd love to see what you've put together. I've already seen hundreds of fresh new filmmakers' shorts and like any good addict, I need more!

Shoot me an email at "Mike@aintitcool.com"

In the subject line include:

“SHORTS” + “Your film’s name” + “The film’s genre”

Then, in the body of the email, please include a synopsis of the film and any contact information you might think I need or would want published. The more info you send my way, the more info there is to put with your short.

Please don’t feel the need to submit multiple times.

Remember, the filmmakers might still be in the audience, so feel free to share your thoughts in Talkbacks below. (JUST DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE). I picked them, so you know I think highly of all of these, but how about you fine folks? How'd you like 'em?

BY THE WAY: If you've had a short featured here, that means that I personally am a fan of your work, so feel free to shoot me any kind of news on new projects/films/whatever. I can't say I'll be able to help or in what capacity, but I'm interested in your work and am always down to see more! (Keep making cool stuff, everyone!)
