DRACULA UNTOLD Will Be a Part of the New Universal Monsters Universe!

Hey guys! Horrorella here...

Word broke earlier this year that Universal had plans (being led by Alex Kurtzman) to reboot the classic Monsters that led their horror slate through the 1930's and 1940's. Rumos of plans for new versions of Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy and the rest of them circulated, as did the notion that all of these monsters and their respective stories would be a part of the same larger universe - a la the Marvel films.

It has been confirmed by producer Alissa Phillips (via HeyUGuys) that the upcoming DRACULA UNTOLD will be the first film released from this collective universe, and that Luke Evans' Dracula will be the first official character from this new world.

I was really excited to be part of that. When we started out we weren’t [part of the series], but then we found out that they were going to do it.

Working with Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan who are very much a part of creating The Mummy and the other ones…it’s been fun to be a part of that.

This seems a little premature, given the fact that DRACULA UNTOLD hasn't been released yet and hasn't been proven as a bankable property.

If done well, it could be an exciting new group of stories, but from here, it sort of feels like the properties are being haphazardly tied together in an attempt to create a franchise, rather than structuring one from the ground up.

What do you guys think? Are you excited enough about DRACULA UNTOLD to entertain the notion of more films? How are you feeling about the Universal Monsters reboot notion?
