This Week's SATURDAY SHORTS: A Genre Love Fest Of Awesomeness!

Hello ladies and gentlemen, Muldoon here with this week's supply of awesome shorts you might not have seen - all submitted by AICN readers and (with the exception of one this week) created by AICN readers as well. After coming off an incredible week packed with excellent movies at Fantastic Fest, it's time to take it easy - you know, relax at the house and catch up on sleep/watch a few shorts in the privacy of my own home while shunning daylight (vampire style). Thankfully I've got a handful of great films in hand and I get to share them with you folks. So we've got horror, science fiction, and dark comedies on today's menu and they're all damn fine - each containing something special that stood out to me. Hopefully you find one, two, or five you like (that's always the goal), but feel more than free to write up your thoughts on the flicks in the TalkBacks below. You never know if the filmmakers are in the audience, so if you're curious about something - then throw it out there. (And as always, be cool and leave the TBer trolling to other articles. This isn't the place for attention seekers, it's a place for film lovers). Boom! Let's get this show on the road.

Go grab yourself some popcorn, lock your kids in a closet, kill the lights, relax and check out this little weekly film fest we've got ourselves here:

WHERE THE RED FOX LIES

TRT: 35:56

Up first is a kickass short from Jeff Ray (a SS alum) with a new film. "What would happen if a person really did suffer from spontaneous combustion? Containing elements of horror, suspense, fantasy and sci-fi, Where the Red Fox Lies is ultimately an emotional drama about two sisters trying to reconnect and mend their fractured relationship." Jeff's working on the last few drafts of his first feature with plans to shoot next Fall. If you dig the short, then head over to his website or shoot him an email: jeffrayshootsyou@gmail.com.

THE KEEPER

TRT: 7:00

In the mood for some creepy comedy? Nice, because that's exactly what Australia's James Chappell has in store for you. "A rich playboy invites a young lady to his opulent apartment for a romantic evening of mutual flirtation. After an apparent misunderstanding, a series of chaotic events lead to a sinister revelation."

ENVOY

TRT: 9:18

Wham! Up next is a film not submitted by the filmmakers, but by a film lover like myself who thought the folks of Saturday Shorts would get a kick out of. (Thanks, Thane.) ENVOY comes to us from director David Weinstein who ultimately wants to make it into a feature. "E N V O Y is a science fiction, action adventure, short film to be used as a proof of concept for a larger full-length motion picture.  It is the story of a troubled young boy who befriends a deadly alien creature, and embarks on a life changing journey." If you like the short, then hit up the film's website for more updates!

SPONTANEOUS AMPHETAMINES

TRT: 8:05

Next up is an experimental drama from David Tracy. It's trippy as hell, but that's implied with "experimental." There's some pretty interesting ideas in this eight minutes of crazy.

THE GOLDEN TICKET

TRT: 9:12

Patrick Hagarty and the gang at Torch|Head Productions have our last short of the week. It's a lovely "what if" kind of story about a guy who just isn't having a good day, but then he's offered something, a golden ticket perhaps, that can turn everthing around.

And ta-da, that's it ladies and gents! That's this week's selection of fun shorts. I hope you guys got a kick out of them. I'll see you all next week with a handful of other shorts. In the mean time, filmmaker firends - keep making great stuff!

If you have a short and think it belongs here or are on the fence about whether to send it in, please do send it in - I'd love to see what you've put together. I've already seen hundreds of fresh new filmmakers' shorts and like any good addict, I need more!

Shoot me an email at "Mike@aintitcool.com"

In the subject line include:

“SHORTS” + “Your film’s name” + “The film’s genre”

Then, in the body of the email, please include a synopsis of the film and any contact information you might think I need or would want published. The more info you send my way, the more info there is to put with your short.

Please don’t feel the need to submit multiple times.

Remember, the filmmakers might still be in the audience, so feel free to share your thoughts in Talkbacks below. (JUST DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE). I picked them, so you know I think highly of all of these, but how about you fine folks? How'd you like 'em?

BY THE WAY: If you've had a short featured here, that means that I personally am a fan of your work, so feel free to shoot me any kind of news on new projects/films/whatever. I can't say I'll be able to help or in what capacity, but I'm interested in your work and am always down to see more! (Keep making cool stuff, everyone!)
