Hollywood's TCL Chinese Theatre To Install New 70mm Projector For Christopher Nolan's INTERSTELLAR!

Jeremy here...

Christopher Nolan has a very particular visual aesthetic, one that is not currently replicable in any existing digital format, so he shoots on film. And because he is one of the most successful directors on the planet, he's earned the option to shoot a good chunk of his latest movie, INTERSTELLAR, using IMAX's 65mm cameras. Naturally, the ideal projection of this movie would be true IMAX 70mm film. This option isn't available in most cities, but if you live in Los Angeles, you're in for a treat.

According to Slashfilm, the TCL Chinese Theatre will install a new 70mm projector in order to present INTERSTELLAR (which opens theatrically on November 7) as Christopher Nolan originally intended. And this is a big deal because the Chinese is considered IMAX's flaghsip theater; it's a signal, however faint, that the format still has a little bit of life in it.

For those of you who don't live in the Los Angeles area... I'm sorry. But here's some good news for everyone: iNTERSTELLAR has screened for a handful of journalists and filmmakers, and the early response has been absolutely ecstatic. The word is that this is not only Nolan's masterpiece, but a watershed achievement in both form and content. So get more excited, if that's possible.
