Vaughn will play Frank Semyon, a career criminal who finds his move into legitimate business threatened by the murder of a business partner.
Farrell will play Ray Velcoro, a police detective forced to do the bidding of a mobster.
Justin Lin, who directed Vin Diesel’s last four “Furious” movies (and the just-aired pilot for “Scorpion”) will direct the first two episodes of “True Detective’s” California-set second season. The second season will be written by Nick Pizzolatto, who also penned season one.
Deadline sources say Keira Knightly (“Pirates of The Caribbean,” “Jack Ryan,” “Begin Again,” “Laggies”) is under consideration to play cop Ani Besserides, and the following actresses were invited to audition for Pizzolatto for the same part on Thursday:
