Hey guys! Horrorella here...
The latest film from Studio Ghibli is causing a lot of talk. It did very well when it opened in Japan earlier this summer, and just took home the Audience Award at Fantastic Fest, where it played to great acclaim. Our own Harry and Nordling spilled words and tears over it earlier this week, both noting its incredible story and stunning animation.
A full trailer has been released, highlighting the artistic detail on display, as well as a bit more of the story itself. The film is a retelling of an old Japanese folktale called "The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter." It tells the story of a magical princess who is found inside a bamboo stalk and raised by a lonely couple.
This is the latest film from Isao Takahata (THE GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES). The American dub will begin a theatrical release on October 17th, and will feature the voices of Chloe Grace Moretz, Mary Steenburgen, James Caan, Lucy Liu, Beau Bridges, Darren Criss, James Marsden, Oliver Platt, Daniel Dae Kim, John Cho, George Segal and Dean Cain.
