Bryan Singer officially set to direct X-MEN GOES '80S a.k.a. X-MEN: APOCALYPSE!!

I thought this Tweet from last December was the confirmation that Bryan Singer was set to follow up DAYS OF FUTURE PAST with X-MEN: APOCALYPSE.

But that wasn't. This is.

Apparently, Singer's legal troubles (which we won't get into here) made it uncertain whether the USUAL SUSPECTS/VALKYRIE director would return for his fourth go-around with the X-people, but Fox has said, "Fuck that noise, $750 million!!" and hired him back.

Fox's Mr. Comics, Simon Kinberg, will once again write the script, (working off of a treatment co-written with Singer and X2 writers Mike Dougherty and Dan Harris) after working on the scripts for THE LAST STAND and DOFP as well as producing FIRST CLASS.

As we've heard, APOCALYPSE will be set in the 1980s and will possibly solely feature the FIRST CLASS cast, rather than the Stewart/McKellen roster. So instead of the Kennedy and Nixon-era shenanigans of the last two flicks, we can look forward to Reagan, more Cold War tension, and hopefully some stuff like this:

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE finally gets some neons and pastels into this series on May 27th, 2016.
