Calling All Princes Of The Universe! There Can Be Only One HIGHLANDER Podcast, And It Is... PODLANDER!!!

Podlander

Jeremy here...

Created by screenwriter Gregory Widen, and embellished with occasionally comprehensible music video flair, HIGHLANDER is surely one of the most inexplicably durable film/television franchises this side of STARGATE. After bombing in its initial theatrical run, the first HIGHLANDER found a second life on VHS and pay cable, where kids who were perhaps denied entrance to the R-rated sci-fi action flick could binge on Christopher Lambert's mush-mouthed heroics and Sean Connery hamming it up as an Egyptian born, Spanish-monickered "immortal" with a Scottish accent. It is a stylish stew of swordfighting, old-school optical effects, awesome Queen songs and a terrific score by the late, great Michael Kamen - a combination that was alluring enough to inspire three theatrical-released sequels, two direct-to-DVD sequels, two television series, one animated series and a shitload of novels and fan fiction. People fucking love HIGHLANDER. And these people deserve a fucking podcast.

Behold PODLANDER!

This is the brainchild of Amateur Scientist's Brian Thompson, a very smart and funny fella who knows more about the HIGHLANDER series than most reasonably sane individuals. When he asked me if I'd like to co-host the podcast, I remembered all the hours I spent parked in front of the television watching Russell Mulcahy's original film, and figured "Why the hell not?" It is important to note that I agreed to this undertaking having not seen a HIGHLANDER movie in its entirety past I think HIGHLANDER III: THE FINAL DIMENSION (which, to my surprise, was re-subtitled "THE SORCERER" at some point). Brian is prepared to see this through to the bitter end - which I presume would entail watching the animated series. This concerns me, but I've made worse decisions in my life.

Comedian and CONAN staff writer Andrés du Bouchet joins us for our maiden voyage, and if you're any kind of HIGHLANDER fan, I think you'll find our discussion provocative, informative and hopefully every bit as entertaining as the movies - if not more so. Think you know HIGHLANDER? Well, you just think again, bubba! Actually, let us think for you, because no one should think that much about HIGHLANDER (unless they're fully-licensed podcast professionals like myself and Brian).

If this sounds like your kind of Gathering (that's a HIGHLANDER reference), please subscribe to the show! Also feel free to rate and review! We value your input!
