CBS, The Only Network Without A Superhero Show, Just Ordered To Series Berlanti’s SUPERGIRL!!

I am – Hercules!!

ABC has “Agents of SHIELD” and “Agent Carter,” The CW has “Arrow,” “The Flash” and “iZombie,” NBC has “Constantine,” Fox has “Gotham,” and now CBS finally has its own comic book show.

Early reports indicated the project was not going to be called “Supergirl,” but now it apparently is.

Just ordered to series, the project is based on the popular DC Comics character and will focus on 24-year-old Kryptonian Kara Zor-El, who has acquired on Earth all the powers and abilities of her cousin Superman.

Script is by longtime “Dawson’s Creek” showrunner Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler, whose TV career stretches all the way back to Fox’s original “Beverly Hills 90210,” and includes six scripts for “No Ordinary Family,” 10 scripts for “Chuck,” and three scripts for “Glee.” Alder also co-created NBC’s short-lived gay sitcom “The New Normal.”

This is far from Berlanti’s first superhero project, he having scripted ABC’s Fantastic Four “homage” “No Ordinary Family,” the “Green Lantern” movie, and the CW series “Arrow,” “The Tomorrow People” and “The Flash.”

And this is not CBS' first superhero show, having broadcast "Wonder Woman," "The Incredible Hulk," "The Amazing Spider-Man,"  and the 1990 version of DC Comics' "The Flash."  More recently it had 1999's non-comic-related superhero saga "Now and Again."

Away from the superhero genre, Berlanti has created an array of short-lived series, among them "Jack & Bobby," "Eli Stone," and "Political Animals."  He's also behind NBC's new Debra Messing cop dramedy "Mysteries of Laura."

The comic-book Kara Zor-El was introduced in 1959’s Action Comics #252, was killed off in 1985 during the all-enveloping, game-changing Crisis On Infinite Earths storyline, and got better in a 2004 issue of Superman/Batman. Also, non-Kara characters named Supergirl have populated DC comics since 1949.
