BIG EYES tells the true story of Margaret (Amy Adams) and Walter Keane (Christoph Waltz), a husband and wife artist duo who took the art world by storm in the 1950's with their memorable paintings featuring children with atypically large, gazing eyes. Walter took credit for the work during their marriage, but eventually, Margaret came out publicly with the shocking revelation that she was actually the artist responsible for the paintings, while he had taken all of the praise.
The new film from Tim Burton is refreshingly outside the scope of what we have come to expect from the director. It seems like recently, he has fallen into the black hole created by his image and the perception of his work. The Tim Burton Style and aesthetic have taken control of his films over story and heart. Here, it looks like he might be taking a step back to let the story and the characters take the lead over anything that can be transferred onto a t-shirt and sold at Hot Topic.
Here's hoping anyway.
