“Love,” which will dump onto Netflix in 2016, delves into “the exhilaration and humiliation of \intimacy, commitment, and other things they were hoping to avoid.”
Judd Apatow, a major force in big-screen comedy (“The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” “Anchorman,” “Knocked Up,” “Funny People,” “This Is 40”), writes and produces “Love,” as he did for small-screen projects “Freaks and Geeks” and “Undeclared” and does for HBO’s “Girls.”
Paul Rust, an actor (“Super Fun Night,” “Comedy Bang! Bang!”) who also served as story editor for the most recent season of Netflix’s “Arrested Development,” stars in “Love” and is co-writing the project with Apatow and Leslie Arfin (“Girls,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”).
Rust and Apatow are already working together on a new Pee-wee Herman movie, as co-writer (with Paul Reubens) and producer, respectively.
“Love” co-star Gillian Jacobs will officially become the Queen of Streaming, as she’s also continuing in her role as Britta Perry in Yahoo’s upcoming sixth season of “Community.”
Netflix has ordered 10 first-season episodes of “Love” and 12 second-season episodes.
