Dana Barron, Dana Hill, Juliette Lewis, and Marisol Nichols have all suffered through a VACATION as Audrey Griswald. Now it's Leslie Mann's turn.
Mann is in negotiations to play sister to Ed Helms' Rusty Griswald, who's the focus of this reboot/follow-up to the original Chevy Chase series. In this story, Audrey's married to a wannabe newscaster named Stone Crandall, who will probably be played by Chris Hemsworth.
My guess is Audrey and her family will play the same role as Randy Quaid's Cousin Eddie in VACATION (and CHRISTMAS VACATION, and VEGAS VACATION), providing a borderline-forced pitstop that Russ' family must suffer through.
Audrey was always played as more of a typical, vaguely rebellious young lady than anything else, so it's nice to see they're expanding the role a little and hiring an actress with the specific comic energy of Ms. Mann. She's carved out a nice little career for herself outside of the Apatow circle (even if this is being co-written and co-directed by FREAKS & GEEKS' Sam Weir), and I could see her (and Hemsworth) really bringing the funny for a few scenes as Helms and Christina Applegate make their way cross-country.
Although if the quite-fit Mann's going to play the grown-up Audrey, then we can assume she's come a long way from this:
