Austin: GIANT SIZE presents HOWARD THE DUCK in 35mm with co-creator Val Mayerik!

Hey, AICNers, it's been a while. Moisés reporting in from the front.

Short version:

Buy tickets here to watch Howard the Duck at the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz this Sunday 9/14 at 4pm along with co-creator Val Mayerik seeing it all the way through for his first time.

He's doing Q&A afterward and will meet-and-greet in the lobby. He'll also have for sale a very handsome item that measures 18"x24", with enough for everyone in the audience. I recommend bringing a couple 20 dollar bills. Just saying. Rest assured that Howard the Duck (comics) fans will appreciate--nay, love it.

Longer version:

I co-host a comics podcast with the wonderful and wise John Gholson called Giant Size. Recently, we had Val Mayerik (the co-creator of Howard the Duck) as a guest. It was just after Guardians of the Galaxy hit, and the first interview he did after the movie came out.

We also did an after-show about his past as an actor, specifically working on The Demon Lover, the directorial debut of Hell Comes to Frogtown's Donald G Jackson. The discussion turned into a full episode of another show I do, Electric Shadow.

During the course of the discussion on Giant Size, he mentioned that he's never seen 1986's Howard the Duck movie all the way through, partly out of respect for writer and friend Steve Gerber, and partly because it just "didn't feel like Howard".

He had absolutely nothing to do with the movie, so this is not a standard Q&A in that sense. I'll have some questions (some of which we got to in that podcast), but bring good ones.

Know in advance that he has no idea what Marvel's future plans are with regard to The Duck, so don't be a dope like the people who ask Stan Lee when they're going to get a Moon Knight movie at a Comic Con signing. Ask about Steve Gerber. Ask about Bill Mantlo. Ask about Marvel in the 70's. Dig for embarassing stories about colleagues. You read Void Indigo? Know Val's many other pieces of work? Go nuts.

I'm an active-duty moderator, and I will absolutely shut down any fart-bomb-level questions.

That said, we look forward to seeing everybody there. It's going to be a crazy, fun time.

Come on out and say "WAUGH!"
