Tivo Introduces Box That Can Hold 26,000 Hours Of TV!!

I am – Hercules!!

What would you do with 26,000 hours of DVR space?

26,000 hours of standard-definition programming divided by 24 equals 1,083 days.

1,083 days divided by 365 = 2.96 years.

It’s called “Tivo Mega.”  It was unveiled Tuesday at the CEDIA home-tech trade show in Denver.

Price tag = $5,000.

More math:

Say you sleep 8 hours and do nothing else but watch TV the other 16. 26,000 divided by 16 = 1,625 days = 4.45 years.

Say you sleep eight hours a night and work 40 hours a week. 24x7=168-(8x7=56 sleep hours)-40 work hours equals 72 hours per week you’re not sleeping or working. 26,000 hours divided by 72 equals 361 weeks. 361 weeks divided by 52 equals 6.94 years.

But.

These are standard-definition figures.

If -- like most right-thinking Americans with $5,000 burning holes in their pockets -- you record only HD programming, you can probably divide by four and convert those 6.94 SD years to 1.73 HD years.

1.73 years of doing nothing but working, sleeping and watching recorded HD programming.

$5,000 is a lot, but I suspect it could save you on Blu-ray season-sets.

The season-one Blu-ray for ABC’s “Agents of SHIELD” (which is not on Netflix) is now selling on Amazon for $40. “Agents” runs 22 hours per season. 6,500 hours of HD capacity divided by 22 = 295 seasons of HD. 295 x $40 = about $11,800 worth of Blu-ray box sets on your TiVo for just $5,000.

If you’re more of a cable watcher, the 16-episode season-four “The Walking Dead” Blu-ray sells on Amazon right now for $44.78. 6,500 HD hours divided by 16 equals more than 406 HD seasons of HD. 406.25 x $44.78 = $18,191 of HD cable programming. $5,000 is also less than $18,191.

The Tivo Mega can also stream recordings to your phone or tablet. It’s cheaper than a house or a new car.
