You'll see NOW YOU SEE ME 2 in June 2016!

Lionsgate has set a release date for their follow-up to their surprise hit from last year, NOW YOU SEE ME.

NOW YOU SEE ME 2 (or THEN YOU SAW ME, or NOW YOU DON'T, or whatever superior title they're forced to come up with) will debut on June 10th, 2016.

Its current competition on that date is Sony and Seth Gordon's UNCHARTED movie, but it also has heavyweights coming out both in the week prior (TMNT 2, SAUSAGE PARTY) and following (FINDING DORY, THE NICE GUYS). You'd think Lionsgate would play it safe and stick with the pre-summer vacation, late-May release date that served them so well last year. Aside from CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 on 5/6 and both X-MEN: APOCALYPSE and ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS on the 27th (one of those will almost certainly move), May 2016 is looking much cleaner than June, and I think a nation of multiplexes not yet bursting at the seam with big summer movies could only work in this flick's favor.

Either way, STEP UP 2/G.I. JOE: RETLIATION director Jon M. Chu is directing this sequel and the original cast (sans Melanie Laurent, but including the previously underused Michael Caine) is returning.

Can the filmmakers pull off another bait-and-switch without pissing off audiences worldwide?
