GOOD KILL, the reteam of GATTACA/LORD OF WAR collaborators Andrew Niccol and Ethan Hawke, has been getting generally positive reviews out of Venice and Toronto, and though the film doesn't have a release date, Voltage Pictures has released a really cool-looking teaser poster.
The film's about a gung-ho, Maverick-esque drone pilot who starts to ponder the ethical implications of his day-to-day. It's apparently more GATTACA than LORD OF WAR or IN TIME, examining the human cost of depending more and more on technology.
Though its color scheme and composition recall a couple of recent posters (including this one for AS ABOVE SO BELOW), the red background, the computer type, and the ominously dripping plane get across a ton without showing anything in the way of plot or star power (notice Hawke's name gets only marginally more space than Niccol's). You get an idea of the tone and the subject matter, and the terrific star/director team that made the film, and that's all.
And, really, that's all that you need.
Hawke serendipitously is both doing well as a leading man (SINISTER, THE PURGE) and as a Linklater player (BEFORE MIDNIGHT, BOYHOOD) these days, and his work in this film is supposed to be stellar, so keep it on your radar. We should hear a release date from Voltage fairly soon.
