V FOR VENDETTA director, James McTeigue to uncover an ALIEN SLEEPER CELL with his next film!!

Hey Yo, Draven here.

James McTeigue seemed like one of the most talented up-and-coming directors after his debut feature, V FOR VENDETTA was released in 2006. He hasn’t really lived up to that potential with his next two features, NINJA ASSASSIN and THE RAVEN, which has led to a lot of speculation on how much influence the Wachowski siblings really had on VENDETTA.

According to THR though, McTeigue’s next opportunity to prove VENDETTA wasn’t a fluke will come with the project, ALIEN SLEEPER CELL. THR describes it as having “elements harken to THE BOURNE IDENTITY and TV’s THE AMERICANS but involving an alien invasion.” Specific details on the plot haven't been revealed yet, but the title gives us a good idea of what to expect.

ALIEN SLEEPER CELL certainly sounds interesting and the script is coming from Morgan Davis Foehl, who wrote Michael Mann’s upcoming film, BLACK HAT, but this sounds like a difficult concept to pull off. To me, the best alien invasion films are either fun or scary. When they end up taking themselves too seriously (*coughBATTLELAcough*) they come off as stupid, tone deaf, and melodramatic (*coughBATTLELAcough*). Having an alien invasion film with a tone similar to either BOURNE IDENTITY or THE AMERICANS is going to be very difficult to pull off successfully, but if they do it could be really cool.
