Blonde nurse Nicole will be first out the door during tonight’s double-eviction “Big Brother. I’m guessing her pal, coffee-shop manager Christine, will be next.

“Boyhood” director Richard Linklater is guest programmer for Turner Classic Movies tonight. From a TCM press release:

Linklater's selections will begin with the powerful drama Some Came Running (1958), starring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Shirley MacLaine. He calls it a "wonderful melodrama" with "a film artist behind it" in director Vincente Minnelli.

Next up is what Linklater calls "a great heist film," John Huston's film noir classic The Asphalt Jungle (1949), starring Sterling Hayden, Jean Hagen, Sam Jaffe, Louis Calhern and James Whitmore.

The evening concludes with the theatrical version of Ingmar Bergman's nostalgic drama Fanny and Alexander (1982), which Linklater calls "one of the best films about a child's perspective on the world."

8 p.m. (ET) - Some Came Running (1958) - Frank Sinatra stars as a disillusioned veteran who returns to his Midwestern hometown in this adaptation of James Jones' novel. Shirley MacLaine in an Oscar®-nominated performance, and Dean Martin co-star in the film, which was directed by Vincente Minnelli and shot on location in Indiana.

10:30 p.m. (ET) - The Asphalt Jungle (1950) - John Huston's gripping film noir follows the planning, execution and aftermath of a complex jewel robbery. Sterling Hayden stars as a down-and-out gambler hired to help with the caper. Sam Jaffe co-stars as the mastermind, with James Whitmore as the getaway driver and Louis Calhern as the financial backer. Jean Hagen also stars, and Marilyn Monroe plays a small part.

12:45 a.m. - Fanny and Alexander (1982) - Ingmar Bergman's award-winning drama follows the lives of a brother and sister who are members of a large Swedish family full of fascinating characters. Originally intended as a four-part television drama, Fanny and Alexander was re-edited for theatrical release and went on to win four Academy Awards®, including Best Foreign Language Film.

Returning tonight:
Sunday Night Football (8:30pm NBC)

With network repeats for competition at 8 p.m., a new installment of ABC’s “The Quest” could manage only a CW-esque 0.3 last Thursday. Blame perhaps Labor Day Weekend preparations, which also may have brought “Black Jesus” and other shows to season lows.

Particularly sturdy against the holiday last Thursday was “Big Brother,” which got nowhere near the 1.6 it plummeted to on Independence Day Eve.
