Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling to bust some heads as Shane Black's NICE GUYS in July 2016!

Over the summer, we heard about a bunch of potential Shane Black projects. There was the super-cool news that Black and Fred Dekker were tackling a PREDATOR reboot. Sony decided that they would rather have Black make a DESTROYER movie than the DOC SAVAGE flick he's been talking about for forever. And WB started making moves on Black's NICE GUYS, a '70s set detective movie set to star Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe.

Well, it seems that's the one Black will focus on first, as WB has set their flag on a release date: June 17th, 2016.

Black, Gosling, and Crowe will go to work on the film this fall (I'm guessing November-ish), and if you factor in the post-production process, I'd say this is going to take up pretty much all of Black's 2015. No word on what he'll jump on after NICE GUYS (which he co-wrote with Anthony Bagarozzi), but the script for DESTROYER is already written (by Jim Uhls and Warren Murphy), so he may jump on the already-moving post-production process once he's finished with this one.

The competition on that release date is two massive animated sequels (one of which I'd expect to move): FINDING DORY and HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 3. It's adult-skewed counter-programming, but if those two flicks did drop on the same day, would any parent have any time (or strength) to see another movie after taking the kids out twice?

No matter. One will move. Let's just see which one.

Shane Black's working on a detective movie set in 1970's Los Angeles. That he co-wrote. And it's almost certainly going in front of cameras in the next couple of months.

Stoked.
