Hey guys! Horrorella here...
The infamous Amityville house has a brand new set of victims with the arrival of AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING.
This will be the twelfth installment in the series, and the first to receive a theatrical release since the Ryan Reynolds-starring reboot back in 2005. Two other films have come along since then, but both have gone straight to DVD.
This film sees the arrival of a new family led by a single mother (Jennifer Jason Leigh). She has moved her kids to the Long Island town because the nearby neuological center offers the best possible treatment for her comatose son (Cameron Monaghan). No doubt, the house probably came at a steal as well - it usually does. But daughter Bell (Bella Thorne) begins to notice the notably strange occurances around the house, and eventually uncovers its demonic history. All the while, her brother is making a miraculous recovery from his injuries, yet doesn't seem quite right.
The story is playing with some familiar tropes, to be sure, but hopefully director Franck Khalfoun (P2, the MANIAC remake) will utilize them well. There are a few moments here where Monaghan's character looks positively devilish as he falls more and more under the effects of the house. I was a huge fan of MANIAC, an I'm hoping that Khalfoun brings the same level of intensity to this one.
AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING opens on January 2nd. What do you guys think?
