Trailer for Gregg Araki's WHITE BIRD IN A BLIZZARD, Starring Shailene Woodley and Eva Green!

Hey guys! Horrorella here...

A new trailer has been released for WHITE BIRD IN A BLIZZARD, the new film from director Gregg Araki (MYSTERIOUS SKIN). An adaptation of the novel by Laura Kasischke, the film stars Shailene Woodley as a teenager whose world is upended one day when her mother (played by Eva Green) suddenly disappears.

Kat Connors is 17 years old when her perfect homemaker mother, Eve, a beautiful, enigmatic, and haunted woman, disappears – just as Kat is discovering and relishing her newfound sexuality. Having lived for so long in a stifled, emotionally repressed household, she barely registers her mother’s absence and certainly doesn’t blame her doormat of a father, Brock, for the loss. In fact, it’s almost a relief. But as time passes, Kat begins to come to grips with how deeply Eve’s disappearance has affected her. Returning home on a break from college, she finds herself confronted with the truth about her mother’s departure, and her own denial about the events surrounding it…

Araki is a director that I’ve never fully been able to connect with. I always enjoy aspects of his films, yet they fail to come together as a whole for me. Despite that, the trailer definitely looks intriguing, as does the dual-nature of the subject matter. Watching this character exert her independence while coming to terms with the sudden disappearance of her mother could provide an interesting premise to explore young adulthood.
