Hey guys! Horrorella here...
The directorial debut of screenwriter Dan Gilroy (THE BOURNE LEGACY) definitely looks interesting. It stars Jake Gyllenhaal as a down on his luck, hard working guy who sort of falls into the area of crime journalism. He has a knack for it, as well as the required moral flexibility, it seems like a good (though kind of repulsive) fit, until he finds himself in over his head.
Lou Bloom, an ambitious young man desperate for work, discovers the world of L.A. crime journalism. When Lou learns of a group of freelance camera crews who film crashes, fires, murder and other mayhem, Lou muscles his way into the dangerous realm of night crawling, where a police siren wail means a possible windfall, and victims are converted into dollars and cents. Aided by Nina, a local TV news veteran, Lou blurs the line between observer and participant.
I'm loving the way Gyllenhall looks to be playing this character. What starts out as a scrappy, go-get'em attitude really looks to be hiding a somewhat unbalanced energy. Can't wait to see more.
NIGHTCRAWLER co-stars Bill Paxton, Renee Russo, and Riz Ahmend. It opens on October 31st.
