We’ve recently learned that the next season/series of AMERICAN HORROR STORY, the inventive horror series in which a number of returning/rotating cast members are more or less plugged into a stand-alone seasonal storyline each year, will debut October 8.
Now comes our first aggravating brief glimpse of the show’s newest tale, set during one of the last true Freakshows & during the 1950s.
Cool enough, I suppose, although I’m still shaking the disappointment of learning that THIS smarter and more compelling teaser is actually fan made.
I enjoyed much of AHS’ first Season…though it’s second Season was generally brilliant…
…and felt the third Season very much lost its way in terms of style, tone, and execution - awkward Stevie Nicks cameos didn't help much. For my money, the thematics the show should’ve pinged on - alienation, discrimination, isolation - were only pinged in the final ten minutes of the series - too late for any substantive payoff, and vividly illustrating tremendous opportunities lost.
Will AHS find more solid footing with FREAKSHOW? We’ll find out soon enough…
