Hey folks, Harry here with a look at Ozymandias' review of Guy Ritchie's upcoming film... SNATCH.... I'm DYING to see this.. and it sounds fantastic. Be on the look out for a flood of reviews in the next couple of days... Folks are raving... Here's Ozy...

OZY'S REVIEW

Snatch is one of my favourite movies of the year so far. I’ve got no real point of reference for Guy Ritchie as a director as I’m one of the few people left in my generation that hasn’t seen his first success Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels but if this latest effort is anything to go by then he is going to become famous all over the world for being more than Madonna’s latest Mr. Right.

The cast here is simply the best of its kind I’ve seen in a very long time. At every turn new stars like Robbie Gee, Stephen Graham, Lennie James and Jason Statham vie for attention with rediscovered nuggets Mike Reid (!), Dennis Farina and Alan Ford and the stars of the show in Benecio Del Toro, Brad Pitt, Vinnie Jones and Rade Sherbedgia. They’re uniformly excellent.

You probably want to know about Brad’s oirish accent – the great news is that he plays his part with his tongue so far lodged in his cheek that it really does make it one of the most entertaining “yank plays a mick” star turns in ages. Yes the movie is violent, but guess what Chester? So is the 9 O’Clock news. Thankfully unlike the 9 O’Clock news Snatch is also very funny, stylish, brash, bold and riveting.

My only real quibble here (and I’m actually contemplating not discussing it as it’s SO minor… Oh, what the hell…) is that Snatch is a great movie. Unfortunately that movie is Pulp Fiction. Both have acres of violence, big laughs, gangsters, sharp dialogue, quotable soliloquies from main characters, key scenes played over in multiple points of view, classic soundtracks, fixed boxing fights, opening shots of the back of someone’s bald head… Snatch even has a Reservoir Dogs style heist where all the bad guys dress up in the same outfit…

Having said that at least if you’re going to crib, do it from the best and no one could accuse Quentin T of being completely clean in the “now where have I seen that one before?” department either. Snatch is tight, well balanced, immaculately played and great, great fun and will no doubt cement Ritchie’s reputation as the new bright shining light of UK cinema.
