We'll be seeing a whole slew of posters, clips, and trailers coming out of Comic-Con this weekend. We saw the FURY ROAD one-sheet earlier, and now we have a couple of hi-res looks at the first publicly released advertising materials for Neil Blomkamp's robot flick, CHAPPIE.
Like the oft-referenced DISTRICT 9 poster, this art gets across the basic premise without a tagline or even a human face. Just seeing Chappie himself, his interpretation of his gun-toting daddy (complete with arched eyebrows and a scandalous grin), and the words NYC spelled across his family drawing gets a ton of info across without shoving it down your throat. I'd even venture to guess those little monsters on the edges of the frame will play into the story somehow.
I know that some of Blomkamp's career momentum deflated after ELYSIUM (undeservedly, IMO), but this seems to lean more towards the social satire and headiness of DISTRICT 9 than the action/sci-fi of the Damon flick. The advertising for this film has already made a mark, and they haven't even started showing off their cast yet, which includes Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver, Dev Patel, and, you guessed it, a man named Sharlto.
This flick seems kind of bizarre and wacky. And I mean that in the best possible way.
CHAPPIE assembles on March 6th, 2015.
