Dan Gilroy is a well-respected screenwriter who's been kicking around Hollywood since the early 1990s (he received his first official credit for the beloved-by-someone-probably FREEJACK, and most recently co-wrote THE BOURNE LEGACY with his brother, Tony). I've always heard great things about his unproduced screenplays, so I'm eager to check out NIGHTCRAWLER, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal as a freelance crime journalist. Gilroy's script was a Black List selection a year or so ago, and he's also directing, so this is pretty much his baby. Awards buzz is beginning to build around Gyllenhaal's performance, and, judging from this just-released viral teaser, I can see why. This looks to be a pretty impressive physical transformation.
NIGHTCRAWLER hits theaters on October 17, 2014. It is expected to debut at this September's Toronto Film Festival.
