Darren Aronofsky looking to get in the sci-fi game?!

After teasing us with the space-set section of THE FOUNTAIN and the "seven days of creation" sequence in NOAH, Darren Aronofsky might finally be making a full-fledged sci-fi flick.

The director is circling a spec script called MOONFALL, written by actor/screenwriter David Weil. Aronofsky's one of a few talents eyeballing the script, which he may or may not produce and/or direct, but there have been talks, so he's clearly interested in tackling the material.

No clue what's attracting him to MOONFALL, a project described as "a FARGO-like thriller set on the moon." It's described as having "a unique angle rather than the typical point of entry to a sci-fi story set in outer space." Not sure what that means, but if Aronofsky's interested, I have to imagine that that uniqueness is more than just talk.

I thought NOAH had the taste of compromise and over-reaching ambition, but there's no argument that it was a strong achievement that proved Aronofsky can handle something on an epic scale with big VFX. Seeing him bring his sensibilities to something like Duncan Jones' MOON sounds pretty excellent, and could end up giving us some excellent, thought-provoking sci-fi on the level of that film (as well as Aronofsky's best).
