With its Mountain-Viper throwdown, “Game of Thrones” again matched its all-time high in the 18-49 demo. It is now the most popular series in the history of pay-cable.
With “Breaking Bad” gone and “Walking Dead” and “Mad Men” on hiatus, AMC has fallen off the Sunday ratings map. Neither “Turn” nor “Halt and Catch Fire” managed to climb over last Sunday’s “Bob’s Burgers” and “Rick & Morty” repeats to find a spot on that day’s top 100 cable shows.
John Logan’s “Penny Dreadful,” another Sunday show that never beats those “Bob’s Burgers” repeats on Adult Swim, was just renewed for a second season. This is not unprecedented. “The Ricky Gervais Show” got renewed by HBO even though it routinely pulled The Blutarsky: a 0.0.
