Hey guys! Horrorella here...
I’m pretty sure Lupita Nyong’o wins the prize for best week. On Monday, we learned that she has joined the cast of EPISODE VII, alongside GAME OF THRONES star Gwendoline Christie. Certainly awesome enough in its own right.
But now, the 12 YEARS A SLAVE star has announced another project. She will star in and produce an adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s celebrated novel Americanah. The book is a love story that spans the world as it follows Ifemelu and Obinze, a Nigerian couple who leave Africa and travel to different parts of the world, before finally reuniting in their home country years later.
The book has garnered world-wide acclaim, and is a project that Nyong’o is very excited about.
It is such an honor to have the opportunity to bring Ms. Adichie’s brilliant book to the screen. Page after page I was struck by Ifemelu and Obinze’s stories, whose experiences as African immigrants are so specific and also so imminently relatable. It is a thrilling challenge to tell a truly international story so full of love, humor and heart.
Nyong’o will be partnering with Brad Pitt’s Plan B, as well as D2 Productions and Potboiler productions on the film. She bought the film rights earlier this month. No word on when the film will begin production, but considering the fact that Nyong’o has STAR WARS and Jon Favreau’s THE JUNGLE BOOK on her plate as well, it will probably follow both of those.
