Hey guys! Horrorella here...
A new trailer has been released for THE GIVER, the adaptation of Lois Lowry's award-winning novel. It tells the story of a Utopian society wherein all memories of the past have been bestowed onto one member of the community, known as "The Giver." Jonas, played by Brenton Thwaits (OCULUS, THE SIGNAL), has been selected to become the new Giver, and begins his training with his predecessor (Jeff Bridges), only to discover that in this utopia, not everything is as it seems, and darkness is lurking under the mask of perfection and happiness.
The trailer showcases director Phillip Noysc's (PATRIOT GAMES) decision to keep the black and white aesthetic of the book, as well as some fantastically sinister moments from Meryl Streep as the community's Chief Elder.
What do you guys think? Yes, it's tapping into the YA-dystopian fad that just won't seem to die, but at the same time, Lowry's book is well-regarded and predated the current literary trend by a couple of decades. It might provide a more solid foundation for this adaptation than DIVERGENT or THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS.
THE GIVER opens on August 15th.
