Robert Zemeckis’ comeback to live action continues next with the 3D adaptation, TO REACH THE CLOUDS, which just received a release date of October 2nd, 2015. The film will be based on high-wire walker, Philippe Petit’s memoir of the same title, and specifically his 1974 attempt to high-wire walk between the Two Towers in New York City.
This was of course already documented in the 2008 Oscar-winning documentary, MAN ON WIRE. I don’t have the expectation that this film will be better than James Marsh’s incredible documentary, but it seems like perfect material for Zemeckis and the 3D should really serve a great purpose.
The cast he has already put together includes, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Petit, Ben Kingsley as Petit’s mentor, James Badge Dale as Petit’s best friend, and Charlotte Le Bon as Petit’s girlfriend. So, with that cast, that material and the filmmaker involved, this will definitely be one to watch for in the fall of 2015.
In the meantime, MAN ON WIRE is currently streaming on Netflix and is an awesome piece of filmmaking to appreciate all over again.
