A24 films has released a trailer for their upcoming comedy, OBVIOUS CHILD. The film stars Jenny Slate (SNL, PARKS AND RECREATION) as a comedian who is experiencing difficulty navigating the various rocks and bumps that life is throwing her way - among them, finding herself unexpectedly pregnant after a one-night stand. This film doesn't look to be headed in the normal rom-com direction though, as (GASP) the A-word is not only uttered, but actually looks to be part of the proceedings.
The film was a hit at Sundance earier this year, with praise being heaped on Slate's performance and the film's fearless, dirty sense of humor.
It looks to be a fun and unexpected subversion of some really well-worn territory, telling its own story in its own way. If the film operates with the same the level of honesty and down-to-earth charm on display in the trailer footage, I'll be psyched.
OBVIOUS CHILD was directed by Gillian Robespierre, and is set for release on June 6th.
