Images from Depression-Era SERENA, Starring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper!

Hey guys! Horrorella here...

Some stills have been released from the long-gestating film SERENA. It stars Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence as a married couple who venture out to North Carolina during the Depression to make their fortune in the timber industry. At first glance, it sounds like a run-of-the-mill period romance - until you look a little deeper and learn the lengths that Lawrence's Serena will go to in order to get what she wants.

The film follows newlyweds George (Cooper) and Serena Pemberton (Lawrence) who travel from Boston to the mountains of North Carolina where they begin to build a timber empire in 1929. Serena soon shows herself to be the equal of any man: overseeing crews, hunting rattle-snakes, even saving a man’s life in the wilderness. Together, this king and queen rule their dominion, killing or vanquishing all who stand in the way of their ambitions. But when Serena learns that she can never bear a child, she sets out to murder the woman who bore George a son before his marriage. And when she starts to suspect that George is protecting his illegitimate family, the Pembertons’ intense, passionate marriage begins to unravel as the story moves toward its shocking reckoning.

This sounds like it could be a fantastic and dynamic role for Lawrence, and one that I look forward to seeing her in. The film was based on the novel by on a novel by Ron Nash, and was directed by Susanne Bier. THR reports that the delay in release (the film was shot back in 2012) is owing to a painstaking precise editing process.

While we still have no idea when the film will be released, the following images (courtesy of production designer Richard Bridgland’s website, as well as a Hunger Games fansite – via The Filmstage) give is a taste of what is in store.
