Papa Vinyard here, now here's a little somethin' for ya...
This latest ASM 2 clip is basically an amalgamation of two Instagram videos Empire posted a month ago, and features no dialogue ("WAHOO!" doesn't count), but it gives a great look at what this incarnation of Spidey looks like doin' his free-swinging thing above the streets of midtown Manhattan. It really does seem like those MIRROR'S EDGE comparisons that plagued the first film won't apply here; methinks this stuff is more realistic, more kinetic, and more viscerally exciting than any of the similar scenes in the previous SPIDER-MAN flicks.
Although you could describe Sony's efforts as "overmarketing" (as if the Powers That Be believe in such a thing), it's worked on this True Believer: I am more revved up for Spidey's latest go-around than ever. I don't think I've ever been this excited for a follow-up to a disappointing film helmed by the SAME DIRECTOR as its predecessor. I'm hoping this is Webb's BATMAN RETURNS, where the studio, happy knowing that they'll be in the black no matter what happens, left the director alone to create something interesting, grandiose, and memorable.
Or it could be another lame SPIDER-MAN flick with really impressive (expensive) special effects. We'll know very soon, as the film opens in the U.K. in about two-and-a-half weeks.
