What the &#$% is ZOMBIES & SHARKS?

Greetings, all. It’s Ambush Bug with some low budget, home video, and independent horror news—bite size, just how you zombies like it!

Exclusive clip to CAMP DREAD!

I wrote an advance review for CAMP DREAD a while back on AICN HORROR and now the film is set to be released to the masses. Starring Eric Roberts and Danielle Harris, the film’s synopsis reads as follows ;

The "Summer Camp" horror trilogy was one of the most popular franchises of the 1980s. However, the decade ended and so did director Julian Barrett's career. Now Barrett plans to resurrect his gory series via a modern reboot patterned after reality filmmaking. With his former leading lady and an eclectic group of 10 young “contestants,” Barrett returns to the same locale where his old splatter-fests were filmed. When one of the campers is found savagely murdered, they realize there’s more at stake than just fame and fortune. Each of them is in a fight for their lives as they realize summer is over – forever.

CAMP DREAD will be available on DVD April 15th and blow is an exclusive clip to the film!

And here’s the trailer.

Release the Rex in POSEIDON REX!

If you can’t wait for GODZILLA this summer or JURASSIC WORLD in the next, here’s something that might tickle your lizard-jones until then. Anderson Digital will be releasing POSEIDON REX on iTunes and in theaters on April 18th. The film is directed by Mark L. Lester and stars Brian Krause, Anne Daniels, Steven Helmkamp and Candice Nunes. Here’s the official synopsis;

A small, secluded island off the coast of Belize suddenly finds itself terrorized by a deadly predator from the planet’s distant past, when deep-sea divers accidentally awaken an ancient evil. Jackson Slate and his team of underwater cave explorers unearth much more than long-lost Mayan treasure while plumbing the depths of a world famous blue hole. They disturb a creature that’s been hibernating for over 60,000 years - a rampaging behemoth of death and destruction not only at sea but also on land.

I’m sure I’ll be reviewing this one in a future column, but until then, here’s the premiere of the poster for the film.

LOCKER 13 is opening soon!

In theaters on March 28th is LOCKER 13, starring an impressive cast consisting of Tatyana Ali, Krista Allen, Ricky Schroder, Jason Spisak, Jon Gries, Rick Hoffman, Bart Johnson, Jason Marsden. Here’s what the film is all about;

Skip, the nighttime janitor in an Old West theme park, delves into the mysteries surrounding an old locker. His sage supervisor recounts chilling tales that underscore the importance of making the right choice. The recollection includes an aging boxer who is given an opportunity to become a real killing machine, a young man seeking membership in a secret society who experiences an initiation with deadly consequences, a would be suicide shaken to his core by a menacing member of a very special club, and a hit man for hire playing a devious cat and mouse game with three women who have a score to settle. The stories suddenly come into play when Skip makes an unsettling discovery and faces a life-or-death decision of his own.

Here’s an exclusive clip for the film.

And the trailer!

Grindhouse tastelessness abounds in SHE KILLS!

Described as-- When Sadie's husband is murdered by a vicious gang called "The Touchers", she finds she possesses a strange hidden power to aid her in her quest for revenge! A homage to grindhouse/exploitation pictures of the 1970's.

SHE KILLS seems to be filled with just the kind of wrong that I love. Directed by Ron Bonk and starring Jennie Russo, Trey Harrison, Michael Merchant, Jody Pucello, David Royal and Martha Zemsta this one is almost finished filming and I plan on checking it out as soon as it is ready.

Until then you can find out more about the film here and you can check out this amazingly grindhousey trailer for SHE KILLS!

Look out! Here comes HONEY SPIDER!

Currently in post, HONEY SPIDER promises to bring back Halloween horror in a big way. The film is directed by Josh Hasty and written by Kenny Caperton and stars Mariah Brown, Frank Aard, Joan Schuermeyer, Rachel Jeffreys, Samantha Mills, Katie Bearden, David Hensley and Ethan Dunn. Here’s what HONEY SPIDER is all about;

It’s Halloween day in 1989 and college student Jackie Blue wants to enjoy a quiet birthday in the midst of a chaotic semester at school. Her friend Amber has other ideas and persuades Jackie to come to the annual Halloween party on campus after her shift at the local movie theater. As the night unfolds, it becomes apparent that Jackie will get more excitement than she bargained for on her birthday this year. The murder that plays out on the silver screen becomes an ominous parallel to reality, as Jackie falls under a strange spell while everyone around her is turning up dead. All the while, a mysterious stranger watches over Jackie’s every move as she succumbs to hallucinations and slowly unravels. Jackie finds herself helplessly trapped like prey in a spider’s web, and all she can do is try to survive the night!

Find out more about HONEY SPIDER here and here on Facebook and check out the trailer for the film below!

And finally…speaking of trailers, Travis Betz, who brought us the inspired zombie musical DEAD INSIDE (reviewed here), has whittled together this mock trailer for a fake film noir and warns us that it just may set your crotch on fire! Here’s POISON PUSSY CAT!
