Nick Cage In GEMINI MAN'

Published at:  Aug 03, 2000 3:12:15 AM CDT

El Cosmico here...oh, man. I don't know about this one...I've heard from a couple of people on this so far...neither of whom I'm terribly sure, but...anyway, this isn't confirmed, so just chill out...

Word is that Nicolas Cage is going to star in Gemini Man, originally planned for Harrison Ford, and also rumored to star Sean Connery.

True? Yes? No? I have no idea. Neither source I have is one I'm super-confident in...so, well, post your talkbacks. At the very least, they're reliable indicators of opinion, eh?

IN GEMINI MAN? They should change the script and send different versions of him through time, looking for the perfect cure for.....receeding hairline! Or the perfect toup

  • Not a big fan of Cage sometimes his (over)acting can be genuinly riveting but other times he brings with him too much baggage and expression, when all you need is the guy to play it straight. Gemini looks like a film which will be strongly affected by the interpretation of the main actor as the whole film rests carefully on the central performance (or perfomances) I think theres a risk he could tip the film over into a bowl of HAM. No offence to Cage not got anything against him just think Ford would have been less risky. Oh hell I don't know?

    Nic's Hair

    by paddyirishman

Has anyone noticed the front cover for the rock on Dvd.Whats the story with Nicholas Cages hair? The guy's got a really bad shite load of airbrushed hair that makes Sean Connery's wig look good.As for Cage in the lead for Gemini,I think they should blank him and pay Harrison Ford whatever it takes to get him to do it.A young Ford chasing an modern day version of himself. How cool is that!Oh,and if anyone has thew script for this film could they please pass it onto me.

    Cage? Yeah why not?

    by ethan hunt

I know very little about the script, but I think they should offer Cage the part. And why not? He's good, and Harrison Ford does not exactly seem carreer minded at the moment. Turning down the Jack Ryan franchise was maybe from an artists viewpoint a good decision, but there is little doubt that another Ryan movie would have done well at the box office, and this would at least have given him a sure hit restoring the confidence in him, before taking on something more difficult. I was and will always be a huge fan of Ford, but these days it is getting increasingly difficult to care about his output.

I WOULD HAVE LIKED HARRISON FOR A FIRST CHOICE BUT IF HE WON'T DO IT. THEN I SAY WE MOVE ON. AND CAGE IS AS GOOD A CHOICE AS ANY. HE DID GREAT PLAYING TWO PEOPLE IN ONE BODY IN FACE/OFF. I'LL WATCH HIM DO IT AGAIN.

Bug's farewell to the troops, for now...

    by ambush bug

Bug here. The AICN talkbacks have been a good form of entertainment for me at my job for the last few months. It has helped me through many a boring day at my desk. I have been there through the whole AICN/CA war, the X-Men movie/costume/casting debates, the mechanical/organic web-spinner imbroglios, and now Tobey's casting as Spider-Man. Today marks the end of my time at this job as I will be moving on to greener pastures. Yes, that's right. The Bug's on hiatus. This site hasn't seen the last of me, but for the time being, there will be no Bug On...'s. I know. I know. Be strong everyone. We'll get through this together. Cormorant, Superninja, Niiice, Uncapie, and all the rest, carry on the good fight until I return. Sniff, sniff. I told myself I wasn't going to cry. Sniff. Harry, you're still cool, even though you banned me that one time, and you run one of the coolest sites around. Don't let the man getcha down. People, I will return. There is plenty more for me to say about Star Wars, Spidey, LOTR, POTA and anything else involving moving images on the screen. I think it would be better if I just turn around and walk away. Viva La Ambush Bug! Sniff. Sniff. Bug out.

Why not just cast Brendan Fraser? Or how about The Rock? He's hot right now. Let's completely IGNORE the fact that the script calls for an older lead, and is tailor-made for a fading action star (paging Mr. Stallone, Mr. Schwarzenegger- this is your career calling.) Other, better casting ideas- any of the leads from Space Cowboys (yes, even Donald Sutherland) but especially Clint; Terence Stamp (hey, it worked in the Limey); Gary and Jake Busey (screw the FX! They look like clones anyway); Richard Roundtree; Malcolm McDowell (three guesses where they get the old footage, first two don't count); and, just to be really cruel and heartless, Christopher Reeve. ANYBODY but that Coppola geek. Please.

    Nic Cage....why?

    by baba o'reilly

I dont want to bash good ole Mr. Cage but I feel I would have to disagree with casting him in this movie. The little I know of the movie tells me I dont want this to be another Gone in 60 Sconds. And I know that with a good script and a good director Nic Cage is capable of making good flicks, he has done it before. But the the idea of Sean Connery or Harrison Ford in this movie truly makes me want to blow my load. So I hope that one of those two living legends changes their minds and takes Gemini Man on. That is unless for Ford it will interfere with Indy 4, which it shouldnt. But Harrison really needs to get on track and maybe this could help him do it. And Connery, fuck yeah, the man is so cool it makes my nipples hard and just about anything he does is good. I cant wait for Finding Forrester, that looks like it could have Oscar written all over it. But in conclusion, perhaps Windtalkers will be cool though I did hate hate hate MI:2, but maybe Nic Cage should keep his hands off Gemini Man.

    SEAN CONNERY!!!!!

    by midgard serpent

How about casting the original Bond as the lead? There is plenty of footage of a young Connery available and i think for and old fart pushing 70 he still can do this role! Anyone else agree?? No Nick Cage, he is turning into a real life cartoon character!! Sean Penn was correct in his assesment of Cage!

How can Nic Cage be too young for this?

    by phreeform

He's very near 40 years old... so the guy who plays his clone would be in his 20's. Seems perfectly OK to me.

    by flamingbastard

I was sitting at Sonic, eating chili and cheese tots and this guy pulled up right next to me and STARED!

At first I thought he was after my food, because he looked poor and had that prison "I'm going to rape your food!" look on his face.

    Then I looked closer.

IT WAS ME FROM THE FUTURE!!!!!

I started my car and threw my chili-cheese tots at him and sped the the Hell out of there. Since then, I've seen my older self at Wal-Mart and at Blockbuster WHERE HE'S RENTING MOVIES I DON'T EVEN LIKE!!!! He's got a combover, why does he have a comb over? I'll never do that, I'll shave my head bald first! I love bald, I love rubbing blad heads, why would I comb ugly hair over my bald future scalp? He made me sick, renting those crap movies.

Then one day I saw him at the gas station! He was juging me, I think he's planning to commit suicide BY SHOOTING ME!!!! Retroactive suicide, I can't EVEN BEGIN TO IMAGE THE LOGISTICS OF THAT!!!!

My other personality's girlfriend wants me off the Internet, says she's tired of the phone being tapped, too many 'clicks' in the line while speaking to mommy. Fuck her, I wish her fat ass would die. I wish my other personality would stop taking those drugs that inhibit me from doing the things I like.

Maybe, that's why my future self has come back to kill me!!! Maybe, Matt runs out of drugs and kills the fat ass shrew!!! OH HAPPY DAY!!!!! HAPPY, HAPPY DAY!!!!

He better not tell me I got raped in prison, that would really bum me out.

    SHUT UP, WOMAN!!!!!

    by seefilms

    The script isn't finished.

    It's being rewritten.

There isn't a director even on the table yet.

Sure, I'm sure a list has been generated as to who would be good for the part...but any schmuck with half a brain could make out such a list.

    Anyway....

  • Has anyone here seen "Space Cowboys" yet? Great fun, great fx. Notice they used a different actor to portray the young Eastwood!?! Wonna guess the reason why? BECAUSE SUCH FX WOULD PUSH ANY MOVIE OVER THE 200 MILLION DOLLAR LINE!!! Especially an action-driven movie like this one here. NOW Cage comes into play: He`s young. Think "City of angels" - he looked VERY young in that. He can do the young guy-scenes without breaking a sweat. NOW think some makeup-guru like Rick Baker. Just let him put on some cool age-makeup on Cage and he`ll do the old guy-scenes again without breaking a sweat. Therein lies the challenge for him and the production, and the budget can come in under 100 Mio. Dollars. AND HELL: CAGE CAN PULL OFF ANYTHING. THIS GUY IS PURE LIGHT, BUT CAN TURN INTO DARKNESS IN A HOT SECOND! They don`t come better than that anymore...

    Cage IS WAY too young!

    by gilmour

A lot of you seem to miss the point. The lead should be 60-70 years old and been a star for years. Nic being 37 is just too young. They need the person to be old enough to use the old footage of the actor to digitize it into this film. What old footage can they use of Nick to be usefull valley Girl, The Bay Boy? Rumble Fish? It just won't work That's why ford, Connery, Eastwood are clearly the best choices (I like Ford best personally)

This is why your career is going down the toilet Harrison. You should've jumped at the chance to play this Gemini Man! Paging Clint Eastwood who would be fantastic in this movie! See Space Cowboys and you'll agree!!

    hey nightsir, dumbass

    by kojiro

Yah, over here buddy. Part of the reason for doing this film is to break new ground on sfx and do something amazing( as well, of course, as to make shitloads of cash). Just doing the makeup route wouldn't get this the buzz the studios want and wouldn't give the audience the same thrill as knowing it was done by cgi; thus, smaller gross. And where the Hell did you get 200 mil from? Oh, I see, you pulled it out of your ass. If the studio has let it be known that it will be done by cgi(which they have), then logically(and pretty damned obviously) they feel it is within their budget and they will make a profit on it. And oddly enough, I'm more disposed to trust their budget estimates than yours. So in future, why not think before you start that keyboard goin' there allrighty? Well, that done I must say I now fell I've got an excuse to throw out my opinions on who should be cast as most others have and say I'm pulling for Ah-nuld Schwhatevereneger or Clint.

    by bari umenema

Nic Cage would RUIN this movie instantly. As others have stated above me, the whole fun of this movie is getting an Eastwood or a Connery to star as Older Hit Man so we can then digitally insert footage of Connery/007 circa Goldfinger stalking Old Connery, or footage of Dirty Harry circa 1971 stalking Old Man Clint in 2001 -- DON'T YOU GUYS GET THIS AT ALL?? Are you dropping tabs of acid with Nic and his buddies? This movie is DESIGNED specifically for Connery or Eastwood, maybe Ford or Gibson but they would not be as good and the reason is that they are not as old as Connery or Eastwood. As for Ahnuld, he's presently doing "The Sixth Man" in which he's chased by his clone (same age though). Gemini Man will ONLY work with Eastwood or Connery. Without either one of them it's best left on the shelf for another 10 years or so, and by that time the f/x technology will be even better (remember Disney's Dinosaur also had a very long incubation period in order for the f/x to catch up with the script). Case closed.

    Nick Cage

    by snafu

Nick Cage has rarely let me down in his recent actions pics. Maybe I'm not as discerning as the rest of you, but the only true failure I saw was Gone in Sixty Seconds. Although I was more excited about this project when I originally heard that it was a Harrison Ford vehicle where they would use CGI effects to make him appear younger so he could play both parts, but I'd still be pretty confident if the project was a Nicholas Cage movie instead.
