Cameron Crowe's ALMOST FAMOUS (aka Untitled) Trailer is up, check it out!

Published at:  Jul 31, 2000 11:06:22 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here. I have been staying away from too many details about Cameron Crowe's film ALMOST FAMOUS... We've run reviews, but I always stopped reading before it got to plot involved. I've had the script for months... and don't want to read it. Basically... Cameron Crowe is one of the filmmakers that I want to grab me while I'm in my seat and take me into his glowy screenthing. Moments ago, I watched the trailer for ALMOST FAMOUS... and... well... I shared parallel line things and began associating with a character... just in the fucking trailer. I'm sure most of you will see how and why when you check it out.

Check Out The Trailer Now!!!

Anna Paquin is in this movie. That's it! I'm there! I totally love that girl, she's captured my heart in every performance she's done. It's almost like she's a magnet for serious roles in great movies (okay...she was also in the seriously lame SHE's ALL THAT, but X-MEN more than makes up for more that Freddie Prinze, Jr. crapathon!). C'mon people, you gotta admit...Cameron Crowe is the MAN!!! 'Nuff said!

    by crimsonrage

"Jerry Maguire" was a bad film, especially when it got all cutesy with that ugly kid with the big glasses. Did he write "Fast Times At Ridgemont High"? That was a movie that had witty ideas that were not very funny. A guy wrecks his brother's(?) car and says the rival team did it, so the brother goes crazy on them during the game. Witty, but not funny. A girl practices oral sex with a carrot while a bunch of guys watch. Oh how hilarious. A guy is a stoner and acts like a retard.....how funny! And then the film gets all bogged down with the whole pregnancy sub-plot. The only redeeming things about that film were Phoebe Cates' nipplys and those weren't THAT great. Oh I can't wait for the attacks!

I hate the title, although I couldn't think of one to save my life. Stillwater was the best. I''m psyched about this movie, finally my big personally anticipated flick for the fall. Last fall was really damn good with Fight Club, Dogma, American Beauty, and Three Kings, but Almost Famous is the first step in the right direction. Kate Hudson is great, Jason Lee is THE FUCKING MAN, and the beatiful Anna Paquin is as perfect as ever. As a music and film journalist (lower lever, I'm not a corporate tool yet) I'm interested in the whole Rolling Stone angle. Rock on Crowe, Rock on......

Before my little brother was born, I used to joke about kids in special ed a lot. Then I went through the process of admitting he needed special ed, then letting go of the stigma attached for kids that need it ( you know, that whole "retard" stigma). Then I talked to the other kids in his classes, really great kids trying to fight and find their way through their learning disabilities, so now I don't joke about that shit anymore. How you speak is not EVEN immature, petty or stupid, because I KNOW you don't know what you're talking about, so I'll save you the REAL speech, I'll only use one (1) word: THINK.

  • You will not be disappointed. In fact, after I saw it, I got bummed out that there aren't more movies out there that are ABOUT SOMETHING. If you are smart enough to love movies about actual human experiences, this is THE movie of the year. Fans of Magnolia and American Beauty will get way into this movie. Led Zeppelin, The Who, David Bowie, Neil Young, The Allman Brothers - if you've never heard of these bands before, don't see the movie. You don't deserve it. Zit-faced little douche bags that live with their parents can go jerk off to Charlie's Angels. We'll keep the Crowe movie to ourselves.

Is it just me, or is Kate Hudson a piece of ass?!? This movie looks AMAZING! Having grown up in the late 70's and early 80's (can anyone say CRAP music?) I can't wait to hear the music of the time in this one. I hear they got tons Zeppelin music in there. And the cast looks killer! Jason Lee is near God-like, Anna Paquin rocks (whoever said she's not hot needs a libido transplant), and Billy Crudup really looks like a 70's rock star! I for one will be first in line when this comes out. By the way, when is this coming out? Anyone?

Cameron Crowe rules and 2001 is good but OVERRATED

    by bigjackiev

Cameron Crowe is one of the best writer/directors Hollywood has and I will damn sure be in a seat when this hits the theaters. Now that I know a little more about the angle and tone of the story, UNTITLED becomes a perfect title... a young writer coming of age? Oh well... titles don't make a movie. I wish Crowe would get involved with more projects (though he thankfully takes his time to get it right...) He should at least produce other people's stuff. He's a better writer than PTA (though Mr. Anderson sure can work a camera...) and an artist that Hollywood has yet to reward with an Oscar. How can you say he sucks? He's honest, sincere, and knows his craft - three things that both Hollywood and most Indy filmmakers don't have. And on the 2001 being the best sci-fi flick issue... 2001 is one of the most overrated films of all time. Good, yes. Unique, of course. Beyond comparison, definitely. Requires mind-altering drugs to fully appreciate? Maybe... Overrated, YES. And to all those that claim the naysayers "just don't get it." I wonder, do you fully understand it? I always thought Arthur C. Clarke's writing and 2001 in particular was about the wonder and awe of looking at something that we as humans cannot possibly understand. The flick indicates some kind of otherworldly journey, the growth of intelligence, and the power of who-knows-what... to say that you do get the point really simplifies the statement (or feeling, whatever) that 2001 is trying to make. And no, that is not a veiled insult. Also... it's boring. I usually hate calling a movie boring because it makes me sound like a thickheaded simpleton who "doesn't get it," but the fact of the matter is I'd rather be watching The Empire Strikes Back. A flick with heart and emotion and cool fight scenes. It's also interesting to note that one of the reasons Kubrick was developing A.I. was because Lucas stole his sci-fi crown. Elusive, reclusive genius indeed.

why is it that you fanboys or geeks come to the conclusion that 2001 is lame to people because they don't understand it? That's not the case. A lot of things are understandable, but that doesn't make in interesting. I completely understood it, perfectly. As for entertainment value, it's lame. Sorry dude.

    by split_finger21

hey now, i see all you guys and gals arguing, but this is just my opinion, i'm intitled right? well, some people could look at paintings for days...and that's how i think kubrick directed, so the audience could look at the background, the set pieces, he gives you time to think about what is really going on. entertainment wasn't at the top of kubrick's list while fiming his movies. you can look up 2001 on any "great films" list , and they have just page after page of info on it, it's amazing. i have so much more respect for everything stanley kubrick ever did. crimson_rage knows what the F he's talking about ...i agreed with almost everything maui_ocean said. he did go overboard with the whole retard thing. but i do like amanda peet, i just saw "whole nine yards", she's a total cutie. jason lee is great, he's so ordinary, just like one of your good friends, i love it. he didn't hit on the knob in dogma though. hey, i'll tlak to y'all later.

I know I've done nothing but gush about this movie - and this is no exception. The first time I heard Tiny Dancer after I saw the movie, I got goosebumps. I don't know if that means squat to anyone else, but to me, that solidified my opinion that this is a wonderful movie :)

Okay, maybe Anna Paquin isn't 'supermodel' hot, but there is an attractive quality in her screen presence. She is an extremely talented actress ('Hurly Burly' anyone?) and I have enjoyed everything she has ever done since 'The Piano'. I recently saw her in 'X-MEN' and you know what, she won me over! She's a pretty girl, not 'sexy-hot' like Cameron Diaz, Catherine Zeta Jones, or even Amanda Peet (although HER oversized teeth were a bit distracting in 'The Whole Nine Yards'). But hey, everyone is entitled to their own opinions and you obviously have yours. Anyone else out there agree with me on Anna? Anyone?

    by crimsonrage

IS the best sci-fi film of all time. OK I take back that statement, because "2001" is more than a film. You the viewer, make the assumptions on what it is truly about therefore it puts you in control of what the odd imagery on the screen means. This is what any true work of art does. Sorry, but a film like "Blade Runner" (which is great) does not do this for me. "2001" IS the best sci-fi work of Art ever.

    by psyclops

Well, it's all about taste (which according to some of the above posts, I have none). Some people think 2001 is a sci-fi classic, just like Star Wars, and Alien. But then there are the kinds of people who just don't like it. The kind of people that loved Battlefield Earth and Event Horizon, but found films like Dark City and Gattaca "too boring" or "too intellectual". I personally like the film, it isn't my favorite, but I respect it.

Cameron Crowe IS tha F-ing man... so shut da hell up. (And othe

    by lightstormer

    (1) Was Jerry Maguirre a "classic?" Who's to say? But I friggin' loved it. And I'm a hard critic. (2) Crowe's writing is impeccable. Did anyone read the script to Maguirre? It was word-perfect to the final film. What we all thought was a collection of excellent performances by top-notch actors was really a superb script brought to life by people that were capable of doing the job well. Crowe is spot-on perfect with dialogue AND structure... something most people (other writers included) wouldn't know if it was sitting on their faces. He brings a story to life THROUGH the characters. So many writers think characters are the people who are affected by the story. WRONG. The characters are the ones who AFFECT the story. Cameron knows this, and for that, I consider him a master of the craft. (3) Fuck the title. Anybody that won't go see a movie because of its title doesn't DESERVE two hours of entertainment. Plus that, it can easily be assumed that they'd be too STUPID to enjoy something that requires more intellect than needed by an episode of 90210. (4) Who was the moron who said Cameron Diaz, Cate Blanchet, and... whoever the hell the others were..? Gimme a damn break. I'd put the new and improved post-X-Men Anna Paquin against them any day of the week and twice on Tuesday. (Besides, I've met Cameron Diaz. She ain't all that and a side of ranch.) (5) 2001 is great... but let's face it... it's slow. And, as the saying goes, "Just because no one understands you, it doesn't mean you're a genius." Am I stupid because I don't endlessly praise Kubrick's work? No. I love Blade Runner... that's hardly "mindless" entertainment. I would just rather watch that, or Gattaca, or Matrix, or SW or ESB (or any Jim Cameron film) than 2001. Personal preference. Besides, 2001 is one of Cameron's favorite films, and he's my damn hero. (Jim... not Cameron Crowe. Oh, wait a second... Jim Cameron... Cameron Crowe... Jim Crowe. Oh, that's weird....) Anyway, I would never claim one of JC's favorites to be "stupid," but hey... one man's Ben Hur is another man's Short Circuit 2.

    by lightstormer

Jeez... I can just see the venom against me already. Let me clear this up right now... first: notice I DID say "2001 IS GREAT." Don't think I hated it. Second: I did NOT mean to imply that I think Kubrick made Blade Runner. It was a comparison of two intellectually involving films, not two films by the same person. Lastly... if you don't know who Jim Crowe was... read a history book.

    by lightstormer

The other actresses I was trying to remember... Gweneth Paltrow and Amanda Peet... Don't hate me for this, but I can't place Peet... who is she again? What was she in? But Paltrow, and for that matter, Diaz and Blanchett... wow, you really have a thing for the stick figures, don't you? No wonder you don't like Anna Paquin... she appears to actually have a BODY. Are you also one of those guys who thinks Kate Winslet is "fat?" Shit. Give me Winslet and Selma Hayek and I am happy as a damn clam. We can even throw Anna in there, since we don't want her to feel all DEJECTED after being smited by so fine a catch as I'm sure you must be, Ocean-man. As far as talent goes, yeah, Blanchet is very good, Gwenneth is great, but Cameron Diaz... hmm... you slap un "ugly" wig on for a quirky little flick about crawling in John Malkovich's head, and allasudden you're Meryl friggin' Streep. She seems nice and perhaps she's got a lot of acting skills, but so far, she really seems to me the new Darryl Hannah. Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

Well, I'd have to say that I agree with Lightstormer entirely. It's ALL about personal preferance. Hell, my favorite movie of all time is ALIENS, a great James Cameron film! It's not that I don't acknowledge films like The Godfather, 2001, or Casablanca as "classics", it's just that this one in particular has a special place in my heart (as does Anna Paquin--right on Lightstormer, you tell 'em!!). But hey, we all have that one special little movie that to us, is always going to be numero uno.
