Scarlett Johansson Talks AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON's 'Cerebral' Script!!

Scarlett Johansson spoke with Parade about her upcoming reprisal of Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow in Joss Whedon’s upcoming AVENGERS sequel, offering her perspective on its script.

I think the script is dark and it’s dry, it’s got this amazing one-liner, glass-cutting sense of humor. Obviously the script is very cerebral. It doesn’t lose that exciting comic book aspect that people enjoyed in the first film, but it’s smart and it feels like the next installment. It doesn’t feel like a rehashing, it feels like these characters are moving forward, plotlines are moving forward. It’s deep and I think that’s why people really respond to the Marvel universe, because the films are fun and exciting and have all that flashy stuff, but there’s a gravity to them. People can expect that gravity this time around."

…says Johansson, in an interesting piece which also discusses her current voice performance in Spike Jonze’s HER.  The part about hearing from Siri’s rep is pretty funny - CHECK IT OUT.

Johansson’s assessment of the A2 script complements Whedon’s own characterization of the work.  With such descriptions, it’s easy to imagine the AVENGERS sequel as ‘THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK of the Marvelverse.’  If this is, indeed, the case, one thing’s for certain:  A2 will have a more clearly defined ending than that film (see his thoughts on EMPIRE HERE).

The next AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON opens May 2015, returning Robert Downey Jr. to the Tony Stark/Iron Man role he performs so brilliantly.
