Papa Vinyard here, now here's a little somethin' for ya...
Dan Fogler has been making a name for himself as a character actor for a few years now (loved him as Franklin the creeper on season one of HANNIBAL), and now, he's co-writing and co-directing (with Michael Canzoniero) his first major movie. He plays the titular DON PEYOTE, a deeply troubled mess of a human being who, after some traumatizing life experiences (and some serious hallucinogenic ingestion), becomes a pseudo-shaman, and has encounters with some colorful characters along the way.
Some of those characters he meets are played by some big-named folks, like Jay Baruchel, Abel Ferrara (yes, that Abel Ferrara), Wallace Shawn, Josh Duhamel, a goofy-looking Topher Grace, and Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway.
I like the cut of crazy that we get a sample of in this trailer, and this looks like a personal, deranged project that I don't think I'll get a full grasp of until I actually sit down and watch it. This sort of hallucinatory cinema can be the tits when done right, so I'm hoping Fogler (and Canzoniero) have a knack for this sort of thing, and have created something more than a roster of big-named celebrity cameos.
DON PEYOTE starts tripping sometime in May.
