Last month, we caught a glimpse at just how low a Jason Bateman character can sink when the red-band trailer for BAD WORDS was released. This film is Bateman's directorial debut, and follows Guy Trilby (played by Bateman) - a fantastic bastard who decides to enter a series of children's spelling bees by exploiting a loophole in the rulebook, and proceeds to throw the entire thing into chaos with his antics.
It's pretty much the same as the red-band trailer, but minus the hilariously inappropriate content. This is a much more watered down version of what we have previously seen, and thus, is less entertaining. This film may live or die by just how inappropriate it gets. The darker, the better. It got some pretty solid buzz when it played at Toronto, and we'll have the opportunity to check it out soon.
BAD WORDS is slated for a limited release beginning March 14th, and will expand wide on March 28th.
