Hey guys! Horrorella here...
The MAN OF STEEL sequel is getting bigger and bigger. With casting completed on Batman (Ben Affleck) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), it's time to turn our attention to the villains. Jason Momoa is reportedly close to signing on an unnamed role, but it looks like he won't be the only one going up against our heroes.
While we haven't heard anything official yet, it is rumored that Superman nemesis Lex Luthor will play a part in the upcoming film. And Variety is saying that Warner Bros. is heavily pursuing Joaquin Phoenix for the role.
It would be certainly be an interesting turn for Phoenix, should he accept an offer. His career has certainly been varied (his most recent role in Spke Jonze's HER has garnered a considerable amount of acclaim), but he hasn't really been on the blockbuster trajectory lately. He has been focusing more on smaller, character-driven films, and word is, he is also considering a role in Gus Van Sant's new film, SEA OF TREES.
Again, this is in very very early stages (and mostly speculation), but it will be really interesting to see how it develops. Phoenix would never have been my first guess of who would square off against Superman in the next chapter of the story, but that doesn't mean it couldn't work. He's got a wide range and a ton of interesting characters under his belt. It would be interesting to see how he would play the character.
What do you guys think? If Luthor is our villain, do you think Joaquin Phoenix would be a good choice?
