Trailer for LEGENDS OF OZ: DOROTHY'S RETURN!

Hey guys! Horrorella here...

It seems like there's no shortage of Oz these days - from the 3D re-release of the 1939 classic to the various retellings of the tale of Dorothy's travels in Oz (in film and on television) to Sam Raimi's prequel that told the story of the Wizard himself. You would think that at this point, the concept would be tapped out. Fortunately for Oz fans, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Yahoo has premiered the trailer for a new addition to the world of Oz. LEGENDS OF OZ: DOROTHY'S RETURN  follows Dorothy (Lea Michele) as she reunites with the Scarecrow (Dan Aykroyd), the Tin Man (Kelsey Grammer) and the Cowardly Lion (Jim Belushi) to take on the Jester (Martin Short) - a new threat to the land of Oz. The film also features the voices of Bernadette Peters, Patrick Stewart, Megan Hilty, Hugh Dancy, and Oliver Platt.

This film is based directly on one of the later Oz books - Dorothy of Oz, which was written by L. Frank Baum's great-grandson, Roger S. Baum. This seems like a good direction for a new Oz property to take. There have been so many books written over the years (both by Baum himself as well as additional writers) that expand the universe, and much of the material and stories from these works has never made it in to any of the screen versions. Delving into those seems like a fantastic way to expand the film mythos without retreading the same territory again and again.

LEGENDS OF OZ: DOROTHY'S RETURN opens on May 9th.

What do you guys think?
