Ben Whishaw to Play Freddie Mercury! Dexter Fletcher on Board to Direct!

Hey guys! Horrorella here...

A biopic on the late great Freddie Mercury and Queen has been in the works for years now. For a long time, Sacha Baron Cohen was going to play the role of the great singer, but eventually stepped away from the project due to creative differences with the surviving members of Queen.

But it looks like the film might be back on its feet. Deadline reports that GK films has closed a deal with Dexter Fletcher (WILD BILL) to direct the film, and Ben Whishaw (PERFUME: THE STORY OF A MURDERER; CLOUD ATLAS) has reportedly signed to play frontman Mercury.

The pic will tell the formative coming-of-age story of the group, culminating in Queen headlining Live Aid in 1985.

Fletcher has reportedly been meeting with Queen members to get a feel for the band and its story, and intends to begin filming next year. Hopefully, this time project will come to fruition. It's a story that we haven't seen on the big screen yet, and while I would have loved to have seen what Baron Cohen would have done with the role, I don't necessarily thing that Whishaw is a bad choice either.

What do you guys think?
