Tristar has released a new trailer for Paul W.S. Anderson's historical actionfest POMPEII.
This trailer focuses more on the story, which seems to hinge on a romance that develops between a gladiator slave (Kit Harington) and a noblewoman (Emily Browning). There is, of course, plenty of new footage of the volcano getting angry and frying everything in its path.
So really, it seems to be a disaster flick kind of in the vein of TITANIC - we're introduced to all of the players, we get caught up in this epic tale of romance and history, but all in the shadow of the looming disaster that we know is just around the corner. And (as the trailer points out), not everyone is going to make it. So it will be a guessing game as to who actually escapes the ashy nightmare.
I'm honestly not finding myself terribly excited by this one. The effects look like they will be quality and it will probably be a fun popcorn watch, but based on what we've seen so far, I'm not expecting too much more than that. But maybe that's all it needs to be anyway.
POMPEII opens on February 21st.
