This is so awesome! Laika is really making their mark when it comes to animated films. Their works is impressive, heart-touching and always outside-the-box. CORALINE captured our imaginations and PARANORMAN captured our hearts (while also managing to be a horror nerd's dream come true). I'm not really sure what's in store with their newest film, THE BOXTROLLS, but I am incredibly excited to find out.
The first teaser showed us that the idea of family is not a simple, static notion, and that a family can be comprised of many variations and include many different people. This new trailer focuses more on the art that makes up the film, but from the perspective of the diligent, detailed work that goes into it from the creator's end. We see puppets being made and sculpted, sets being designed - an entire world being created with careful and loving detail. This footage goes from setting the stage to seeing these amazing creations come to life before our eyes.
The story is based on the book Here Be Monsters, by Alan Snow, and tells the story of a group of monsters (known as Boxtrolls), who live beneath the streets of Cheesebridge. These Boxtrolls take it upon themselves to raise an orphaned and abandoned human child, known as Eggs. When the Boxtrolls find themselves in danger at the hands of an evil exterminator, Eggs must venture above ground and seek help from the town in order to save his family.
The film features the voices of Ben Kingsley, Elle Fanning, Jared Harris, Toni Collette, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Richard Ayoade, and Tracy Morgan. THE BOXTROLLS opens on September 26, 2014.
